Warne to unveil part two of discussion

Test great Shane Warne says part two of his controversial discussion paper on how to fix Australian cricket will be released by Monday.

The legspin genius lashed Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday with a statement which called for various friends of his to be given positions of power.

The 43-year-old nominated ex-teammates Glenn McGrath, Mark Waugh and Damien Martyn as the type of people who would make good national selectors and called for his former Test skipper Mark Taylor to be appointed as general manager of cricket.

Warne had slammed CA for getting rugby types involved in the game and said more current cricket people should be recruited.

This was a clear reference to CA’s high-performance manager and former Wallabies player Pat Howard.

Former New Zealand cricket captain Stephen Fleming’s name was raised by Warne as a good fit for national coach.

“Part 2 of my discussion piece will be delivered by Monday..Having a chat with James Sutherland over weekend Part 2 is shaping up good so far,” Warne said on Twitter on Friday.

CA chief Sutherland had previously welcomed a possible meeting with Warne to discuss his ideas on the game.

Warne has blasted CA’s selection strategies of resting key players and managing their workloads through a heavy schedule of matches.

He wants selector Rod Marsh to be promoted to chairman of selectors and says the players should offer a united front against the policies of Howard and chairman of selectors John Inverarity.

“As an emotional, passionate and Australian cricket team supporter (and player) for the best part of 20 years (a proud one too) I, like many others am frustrated on many levels at present,” Warne said on shanewarne.com

“If we do nothing now, we will be where we were 30 years ago. There needs to be urgent action and a new strategy/plan put in place.

“A simple criteria is pick your best team and stick with it in all forms, then the players get used playing together and being with one another on tour, you get to know the person, too much chopping and changing leads to insecurity, players then start to look out for themselves and over their shoulder, this breeds selfishness.

“Its also why rotation and resting players will never work. I believe the players should be united, take ownership of this, its a very powerful and strong message to send to CA if the players message is I do not want to be rested or rotated I want to play every game, if I dont perform drop me.”

How does Ferguson not make his ODI squad but is in the Test 11. He has one serious man crush on NCN, I like him as a bowler but he shouldn't be jumping ahead of Bird or Starc in the Test side. Can accept him in the ODI side. No idea how Marsh suddenly gets in ahead of Hughes for the ODI side, Hughes already has more hundreds than him and a better strike rate.

At least we now know that Marsh must be a close friend of Warne's.

Just naming different people for existing jobs is hardly a great plan. I think the selections this last year have been all over the shop- the 3rd Test against South Africa was a prime example of the selectors & their policies not being up to scratch. The 17 man squad to India is another. Another major factor is the inept scheduling this summer. I hope some good comes out of Warnies high profile rants, cricket in Australia is definitely a bit of a basket case at the moment.

Justin Langer : "What about me, Warnie, we've been mates for years, can't you find a job for me too"? Warne : "No worries, little gnome, I've got you covered in Part 2. I'll look after you"
