Five players to watch out for in NRL 2013

By Ben Talintyre / Roar Rookie

As the 2013 National Rugby League season roars into life, here are five player to keep a close eye on.

5. Kane Evans (Roosters)

Evans is a giant who is expected to make his NRL debut this year.

He’s a damaging runner of the ball; compared to the playing style of Gorden Tallis.

The Fijan may make it onto the bench this year due to the departure of Mose Masoe to Penrith. Martin Kennedy and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will likely start, but Evans, if given the chance, will be sure to make an impact from the bench.

4. Michael Chee Kam (Sea Eagles)

A former Raiders player who the Sea Eagles signed to a three-year deal, he could be the man to fill the empty spot left by big Tony Williams.

He was in the Australian schoolboys squad and has already been compared to Frank Pritchard.

3. Michael Lichaa (Sharks)

One of the most talked about talents in Toyota Cup, hooker Michael Lichaa is a Cronulla junior who debuted as a 17-year-old in the Toyota Cup in 2011. He’s been compared to Robbie Farah.

NRL clubs have a big opinion of this talented hooker, rated as one of the most creative and skillful young players going around. He’s got a good left-foot kicking game and is a good defender. Don’t be surprised to see him come through this year.

2. Josh Drinkwater (Dragons)

This Dragons halfback has been talked about a lot. He will put pressure on Nathan Fien for the halfback spot.

Drinkwater came from Manly hoping to get a chance as he felt he would never get a chance at Manly. There is no lack of talent; he is valued by Steve Price; and could break into in the first team this year.

1. David Klemmer (Bulldogs)

The young monster forward Klemmer is 120kg and plays the best part of 80 minutes every game.

He was the only player to run over 4000m in the Toyota Cup last year and is a huge talent. He is expected to get a bench spot due to James Graham’s suspension.

He won the under-20s player of the year last year and there are huge hopes for him this year.

He is a superstar in the making, which is why they are already negotiating to extend his contract with the Bulldogs.

Kane Evans was good last year in the under 20's. As was his mate as well, the red-headed queensland kid who played in the front row. Klemmer reminds me of a previous Bulldogs front rower. A big giant. Cant think of his name.

He's not an unknown, but throw in Tigers winger Marieka Koriebete as well. I had a bit of cash on him to be the NRL top try scorer at 50/1 (before Barba went by the wayside) and I am very, very confident about it. This kid is a superstar.
