The two stalwart and most compelling names in world football at the moment may be considered to be the arch rivals, and they are indeed the best.

But have you ever wondered what would happen if the dangerous duo wear the same jersey one day?

Messi is the best player in the world today and if there is anybody who can cost him his place it’s the 28 year-old lad from Portugal, Ronaldo.

Ronaldo does every single thing that the best player should do in order to be tagged as the best. The problem for him is that Messi does it better.

But what would it be like if the top two players come together and attack the same side of the pitch?

Before we get more serious, let’s say that they play together for PSG because of obvious reasons, money being the most obvious one.

As they want to continue being the best, they cannot go out of Europe. Hence, PSG is the only side which has officially given them a contract.

This fiction is going to get into second gear now and with that I mean the clashes of ego.

For an average football fan, the presence of these two in one side would mean complete decimation for opposition. But there are other factors to consider in this equation.

The free kick and penalty are part and parcel of scoring goals.

Messi and Ronaldo do that for Barcelona and Real Madrid, but being together would mean total chaos. One wouldn’t simply give away his opportunity to beat the keeper to the other.

The second problem for the lethal duo could possibly be the hunger for goals playing in Ligue 1 (French League).

With a combined goals of 96 (50 from Messi and 46 from Ronaldo), in Spanish La Liga last season, they would both love to score ten more than that in the French league.

The oppositions are not as tough as the Spanish sides and the passion for scoring from the two would be the same.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’or in 2008 with Manchester United, and since that year Messi has kissed the most coveted individual prize four times.

Playing together would allow the fire in them to burn brighter than before, convincing themselves that they must score one more than the other.

The possibility of assists would surely go down the drain. Messi and Ronaldo may provide a lot of assists to their team mates but the rate would come down when it comes to playing the ball to each other.

After the inconvenient truth, it’s time to reveal the positive impacts.

Both Messi and Cristiano would be competitive and selfish but there is something called winning the game for the club. At some point in time there would be a situation where scoring goals individually would be impossible.

There is no denying both players’ individual brilliance. Both superstars average more than a goal per game and that means trouble for the opposition.

In order to salvage a point, every opposition would have to score at least one goal or more.

Ronaldo and Messi would be the only goal scorers for the club because the midfielders and attacking defenders wouldn’t dare to do the job, avoiding the top goal scorers today.

With this, PSG might well be the team who can create new world records in a season or two.

We have seen both the sides of the coin and though, this fictional article may not ever happen.

But, as nobody expected Zidane to head-butt Matterazi in the 2006 World Cup finals, we might get a special privilege to see Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the same page.

If we do, brace yourselves.
