Gold Coast Titans vs Newcastle Knights: NRL live scores, blog

By Nigel Wakeley / Roar Guru

The NRL’s Round 7 continues on Sunday afternoon with a fixture between two evenly-matched sides, with the Newcastle Knights visiting the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park. Join us from live scores and commentary from 2.00pm AEST

Both sides have had two losses on the season, but the distinction for this match-up may be the fact it’s played in Queensland – the Knights haven’t won an away game this year.

Last round, the Knights narrowly won 8-6 over the Panthers, who had the worst defence in the league going into the game – not exactly the scoreline Wayne Bennett would’ve been hoping for.

James McManus scored a 90-metre try in the first half, and then the Knights held on for the rest of the game in what hardly could be called a compelling spectacle.

The Titans had a much more interesting game last round, scoring the first try against the Eels, before Parramatta got into the match and took the lead with three successive tries.

John Cartwright’s men didn’t give up though, and scored 20 second-half points to win the game by six.

Both teams will have their five-eighth available for the match after injury concerns (the Knight’s Jarrod Mullen underwent knee surgery, while the Titan’s Aidan Sezer missed two matches with a hamstring strain), however Novacastrian Jeremy Smith won’t be playing, suspended for six weeks due to his headslam last round on the Panthers’ Matt Robinson.

Keep an eye on Akuila Uate, who has seven tries to his name, as well as the most metres gained for the Knights. Titans and Australia representative Nate Myles is also a player to watch; he has the most tackles for the Titans, the second most hit-ups, and the third highest metres gained.

We’ll have live commentary and scores on The Roar from 2.00pm AEST.

FULLTIME Newcastle Knights 30 – 6 Gold Coast Titans Big win for the Knights, their first away win of the season. Full credit to the side, they held very well in defense and were able to complete their sets. That first try was simply magnificent. They really stuck in at the end as well, giving them some vital points to get them up the ladder. Unfortunate for the Titans to lose so many players so early in the game. At halftime it was reported Cartwright was proud of their character; perhaps not so much now. Far too many balls lost in the tackle. They'll drop to 7th.

78' Newcastle Knights 30 – 6 Gold Coast Titans Gold Coast have been embarrassed at home! Unfortunate of course with their injuries but they've been undressed in the second half (not literally).

76' Newcastle Knights 30 – 6 Gold Coast Titans Really good effort by Gagai - he couldn't hold the pass but kicked it back up to his hand before flicking to Uate who gratefully pushed past Taylor to score. 41 tries in 40 games for Uate.

That's right, unless they get a try which would leave them on even points with the Broncos
