The successful start to the county season by Sam Robson has led to the debate over whom he will play for.
Robson – born July 1, 1989 in Paddington, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia – has been playing for Middlesex in the recent county cricket season, alongside restored Aussie opener Chris Rogers.
Only days after scoring a record opening partnership with Rogers, Robson made his second hundred in five days.
Robson could be very handy to the Australian batting stocks, and has the potential to become a great Test batsman.
The big question is, whom will he represent?
If Australia is going to keep him from playing for England, they’re going to have to move fast. The best way to steer him Australia’s way is to pick him in the Australia A games.
He could open with young Tasmanian opener Jordan Silk. These two could be Test openers in the years to come.
If Robson isn’t nurtured by Cricket Australia we could lose this talent to the dreaded enemy.
So Roarers what do you think about young Sam Robson?

Can any Pommy put up a desent explaination as to why nearly half their Ashes squad for the 2013-2014 series isnt English?, or are they too delusional to talk about it?

I'm thinking Boxing day test with 100,000 people yelling you traitor at him would scare anybody.

Pope, Yes, I'd agree with you. Robson is on an English passport which allows him to play as a 'local', and without residential qualification. If he aligns with NSW, his state of birth (and where his father is involved), or Australia 'A' as suggested in the heading of this article that advantage he has to plain England is gone. The surprise would be if he chose to align with Australia. He's a professional cricketer and his future s in England - I'd say he's definitely decided.

Don't blow smoke up his bum. Sounds like a pommy name so let him go. If he does end up playing for them, our developing pace attack will give him some chin music to remind him of lost opportunity.

Two yea ars ago He averaged over fifty in the county season. If Inveraity had placed him the Aus A side back then. He might want to play for Australia.

Who cares if he plays for England if that's what he wants? This is his first year when he's really shown something. I know the Aussies are desperate, but this just sounds like a beat-up.

And herein lies the dilemma at the heart of aus cricket. How do we keep talented youngsters interested when there are so few career options in the sport in aus? All those who rail against the BBL have yet to offer a viable alternative to this way of promoting domestic profitability Shield cricket crowds died in the 50s, but no one did anything to revive/alter the format so 60 years worth of chickens are finally coming home to roost (except those that landed in world series era, but in retrospect all that did was futher enhance the international scenes dominance at the expense of domestic, leaving even shakier foundations.

Robson 215 not out at stumps. But the comments he made to the press afterwards indicate he is thinking of England not Australia. He said, amongst other things "I love living here and I love playing for Middlesex. There have been opportunities to play first-class cricket in Australia, but it would jeopardise my future with Middlesex [he would have to play as an overseas player if he represented an Australian state in first-class cricket] and I can't do that."

You can make more money being a FC player in county cricket than here.

Sam was quoted as saying he'd had first class offers in Australia and turned them down. i'd say he's decided.
