Port Adelaide vs Richmond: AFL live scores, blog

By Brodie / Roar Guru

Port Adelaide and Richmond go head-to head as they both look to solidify their finals outlook ahead of the stretch home. Stick on this page for live scores and commentary from 1.45pm AEST for what should be a fascinating encounter.

Last time these teams met, in the final round of last season, they played out a disappointing dead rubber draw, which left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

Both teams head into the clash on the back of honorable losses last week. The Tigers have dropped three in a row to first-class teams in Collingwood, Fremantle and Geelong.

The Power dropped their first of the season to North Melbourne last week, after conceding a seven goal first quarter, to only lose by ten points.

The Tigers will be hoping this game comes down to the battle of the clearances, as they have flexed their muscle in that area, ranking second in the competition.

In the middle they have superior aces up their sleeve called Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Brett Deledio.

If the Tigs are to win this game they will need to play a full four quarters, something which has been lacking all season.

In the last three weeks the Tigers held a first-quarter lead on all occasions, only to watch it erode with haste.

The Power, on the other end, have been the entire opposite, starting the game off slow and coming home like a freight train.

If Port can control their free kick count from last week and show a bit more polish in their finishing, it should get them the win against the Tigers.

The young and inexperienced back-line will look to prove their worth against the intimidating Tigers front half by attempting to shut down super duo Jack Riewoldt and Luke McGuane, who have combined for 31 goals so far this season.

To be honest this is a true toss of the coin. Until we see the effort from both teams it’s anyone’s contest.

For the fact they are at home, I like Port Adelaide to prevail by a whisker.
