Is Chelsea about to return to the summit of football?

The world has seen it. Despite playing under different coaches, Chelsea has been able to make a mark – of its solid presence across European football.

We have seen the high self esteem, the marvellous tempo, the confidence of delivering, total integration, and an impeccable level of coordination shown time and again. Be it the veteran Frank Lampard, or the latest addition to the pack, Ake, all have contributed well.

Now, onto the offset of next season. If Mourinho actually returns, we might just witness a meteoric rise in the confidence level of players.

The team appears to be a complete package. Veteran Cech would be guarding the posts with his ever shining performances, by virtue of his rich experience. His unparalleled contribution in all recent achievements cannot be overlooked.

Thankfully and wisely, legend Lampard has been granted a crucial extension for another season (as millions of fans also wanted!).

This may just swing the EPL their way.

Another possible advantage for Chelsea over the arch rival Man U, is that Sir Alex Ferguson will not be there any longer. He had controlled and directed the squad since forever.

In absence of his expertise, it will be difficult for Man U to perform at high levels consistently because they will take some time to gel with the new coach.

Chelsea has got another advantage of having perfect men for the perfect positions, which is a wonderful thing. In the front line, Mata, Torres, Oscar, Hazard and Ba have got the capability to breach any defensive fortress.

Luiz and Lampard are known for taking charge both ways, i.e. supporting the front line as well as the defence. Ramires is a true workhorse.

The Chelsea defence is another vital cog in the wheel. Fortunately they have strong defenders such as Ivanovic (Termed as a tank!), Terry, Cole, Cahill and Azpilicueta, who can stop even the best attacks, as they proved against Barca in the Champions League last year.

In addition to these qualities, the frequent change of guard has proved rather fruitful for Chelsea, compared with other teams and generally accepted norms.

Off late, Chelsea has learnt to adapt to the useful tips offered by every coach, and convert this knowledge into victories, irrespective of the length of time the coaches stayed for.

Instability did put Chelsea down for a short time, when they dropped out of the title race as well as the Champions League, but still they managed to recover and win a trophy under the guidance of Rafa Benitez and the experiences garnered by all others.

Thus, it would be interesting to watch each move the club makes now. To summarise, next season could result in a Treble or maybe even more! They have the support of millions spread across the globe.

@Damiano - Indeed, a Chelsea fan hoping for another trophy-full season :) @Sky Blue - Understand ur sentiments, as all the teams u listed are true arch rivals, however, Chelsea and Man U have shared 8 of the last 9 EPL titles.. I rest my case! @Daniel Guerinoni - U r spot on.. defence is the key for Chelsea next season!

Chelsea are a very strong team, but I believe that due to ageing stars such as Terry and Lampard facing decline; the club has not fully regenerated its attacking and defensive solidity. Chelsea have been intelligent in acquiring young talents such as Hazard, Oscar and Mata but they need to purchase a stronger defensive pairing then Cahill and Ivanovic. Attackers win you games, defenders win you titles.

Arch rivan Man U, I stopped reading there. I care more about beating Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham, QPR, Leeds and Fulham much more than Man United.
