Origin 2013 will be closer than you think

By Jonah Anthony / Roar Rookie

It’s funny how people read into the last seven years of this great rivalry and come to the conclusion Queensland is just too good.

People seem to forget that in last year’s decider, Queensland won an epic Origin series by defeating New South Wales 21-20.

The game was a funny one. Brent Tate clearly punching Paul Gallen in the play the ball in the second minute, and earning the penalty.

In addition to this, the obstruction try awarded to Justin Hodges was dumbfounding.

I might add to this that New South Wales would’ve won the series had this try been correctly ruled upon.

The days of being able to pick a footy match match before it’s even begun are over. It’s no different with State Of Origin.

I really like the Blues chances this year. Again, I think there are a few bizarre selections in the team, but I believe it is still a 17 that can get the job done.

Queensland will fancy their chances at making it eight in a row. But New South Wales have shown time and time again they refuse to be walked over. The boys south of the border are always just pipped in the decider.

At least that’s been the case the last few series, we’re getting closer.

I just think both 17s are contrasting, and the side that sticks to their game plan will be eventual winners. But to those Maroon supporters expecting a dominant series win, I believe you have another thing coming.

I've haven't stated that the first match was unfairly ruled upon, nor the second. There were a few calls in game 3 I disagree with, that is all.

There will be a lot of whining should the NSWelshman win this series, no one whines like a Queenslander ,

They'll argue anything. I try to avoid common sense because the conversation then goes nowhere.

Actually it got kicked out of his hands and it's illegal to attempt to prevent a try with the foot/leg. Not having knocked on he put his hands on it on the ground. Even so, had it not been allowed Queensland would have won by 2 points, at which point you would probably argue the method for determining series winner is unfair and should be done on aggregate

Yeah and you should have lost that too. But Greg Inglis is so good that he's perfected this move were he drops a ball over the line, and get this, still scores a try. Brilliant right?

Not according to Blues supporters... And yet we supposedly lack the common sense, go figure!

Brent Tate gave a fist-facial :D That Hodges try was a try! Only NSW people remember... For if the roles were reversed, you'd all be like "who cares, look at the scoreboard, who won?" Let's not forget that QLD also won another match that series :) that surely would have helped ;)

Firstly, many agree that the Hodges try, although not in the spirit of the rules, was within the rules at the time. Secondly you can't know that Queensland would have still elected to kick 2 penalty goals in the second half had that try not been scored and then you can't know what would have happened had Queensland elected to kick for touch and on both occassions making NSW defend their try line for a few sets of 6. That try cahnges everything and if you take it out it proably alters the way the second half gets played
