This will be the second and last warm-up game for both teams, before action moves to the 2013 Champions Trophy where Australia and India are placed in different groups.
And while this warm-up game, much like most others before the tournament have no official ODI status, it will be a vital one for both teams as they look to experiment with their line-up one last time.
Both teams enter the game with a win each. It was derived in similar circumstances; India and Australia batted second and were up against tough targets before they lost a few early wickets. A big 100 followed and the match was won easily in the end.
Shane Watson grabbed Australia’s chase against the West Indies by the scruff of its neck, scoring a 98-ball 135.
This was after Mitchell Starc had recovered well from his ankle injury to grab a four-wicket.
There were ducks for Dave Warner and Phil Hughes, both of who are returning from India where the pitches – whether in the middle or in practice – were quite different from the ones in England.
Captain Michael Clarke did not bat in Australia’s chase despite the loss of six wickets and he might bring himself up the order for this one.
India’s bowling in their opening warm-up game went on expected lines. The quicks went for aplenty and the spinners lacked the edge they have back home, in turn allowing Sri Lanka to score a massive 333 in their 50 overs.
It was Virat Kohli’s 144 and an unbeaten century from Dinesh Karthik that saved India the blushes.
Their 186-run stand for the fifth wicket came only 23.2 overs and by the time Kohli was dismissed the match was all but over.
Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma will like to spend little more time at the crease, while captain Dhoni could promote himself up the order too to allow himself some more deliveries to face.
My sense is that Australia will look to go after the Indian bowling from the word go to put them under a lot of pressure. Of course a lot could depend on the conditions, which for now has been forecast as clear.
But a bit of cloud cover above, a little more green tinge below and suddenly batting could become quite onerous.

To be fair to them, they had decided their playing 11 before the game started, so they weren't using all their 14 players (minus Clarke).

And Channel Nine paid $500 million for the rights to televise this load of muppets CA must be wetting themselves...not that much of that will flow down to where it is needed in junior and club cricket which is dying in Sydney. The show ponies and 20/20 sloggers will get filthy rich while clubs can't afford new pitch covers, decent sets of stumps, boxes of $60 balls, coaching for their kids or even pay their council ground fees and are losing grounds hand over fist.

What's worse is they had 15 in the side so Watson batted 7, Faulkner 8, Johnson 9 its not like they were tailenders out there. It was pretty poor but Clarke did not bat. If you take him out of it the rest have been making around 60-100 for awhile.

How on earth did Australia get manage to get that terrible a score. Granted it's only a practise match but you would expect the batsmen to make a bit more of a effort then that. If even half of these players are in the Ashes team then this could be a really long Ashes series for Australia

India's won by 243 runs. That's a huge margin, even considering it wasn't a very serious match. They will be chuffed alright but will do well to understand the rest of the tournament may, just may not have pitches this easy to bat on. Australia's collapse was disheartening. It was almost like they collectively heard some bad news and ceased to remain in the game after that. This was after they allowed India to recover from 5/55 and score more than 300. With Clarke suffering that back injury, things could get slightly tougher for the Aussies. That's that from me, there's no presentation I am assuming given that it's a warm-up match. Will be back with Australia's next game, their first in the tournament. Ciao!

Gone now, bowled by Ashwin! And would you believe it, it's been chopped on to the stumps again! Was looking to cut it against the turn and Voges has nicked it back to hear the clatter! He's top-scored with 23. Australia are bowled out for 65 and despite it being a warm-up game, there will be a few scars of this going into the main tournament.

Alright and now he's out, run-out! Starc was looking to play it away to the leg-side and gets hit on his pads. A huge appeal follows but the umpire's not interested, what Starc's interested in is a quick single but the non-striker's refused it and the throw comes in direct and hits the stumps. Starc's way out! 9/60 in the 22nd. A sad affair.

What happens is what's happened all innings, an inside edge that crashes into the stumps and that's number eight back into the pavillion. Mitchell Johnson's gone. 8/54 in 20.
