All Blacks vs France: Test rugby live scores

By The Roar / Editor

The All Blacks play their first Test of 2013 when they meet France at Eden Park tonight. We’ll have live scores from 5.30pm AEST.

After New Zealand lifted the William Webb Ellis trophy at Eden Park when they defeated France 8-7, the world’s number one side went to another level in 2012 with a near-perfect record.

Under new coach Steve Hansen the All Blacks destroyed the Irish in New Zealand, cantered to Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship victories and nearly claimed the Grand Slam to round out the year.

An 18-all draw with the Wallabies at Suncorp Stadium and a shock 38-21 loss to England stand as the only blemishes on their record during the campaign.

Tonight the All Blacks will have a slightly different look, with Aaron Cruden stepping in for the injured Dan Carter, loosehead Wyatt Crocket replacing Tony Woodcock, and Sam Kane coming in at openside for absent skipper Richie McCaw.

21-year-old hooker Dane Coles makes only his fifth appearance, while the in the second row the relatively inexperienced pairing of Luke Romano and Brodie Retallick will start.

France head to New Zealand after a dismal showing at the Six Nations, winning just one match to finish last.

With the French Top 14 competition only recently finishing, several players have only arrived in New Zealand this week and will be rested, leaving new coach Philippe Saint-Andre to bring eight uncapped players in the 35-strong touring squad.

24-year-old flyhalf Camille Lopez will make his Test debut at ten, while Adrien Plante will also get his first Test cap on the wing.

While the All Blacks hold a dominant record over the French, winning 38 of 51 Tests, tonight’s opponent have had occasional success in New Zealand.

The All Blacks’ last loss in New Zealand was a 27-22 loss at Carisbrook against the French, who also hold the distinction of being the last nation to beat the All Blacks at Eden Park – all the way back in 1994.

The French also claimed one of their most famous wins on New Zealand soil at Eden Park when they claimed a 24-19 win on Bastille Day back in 1977.

At full strength and in form the French would have a remote shot at causing another historic upset tonight, but the reality is they are neither, and the home side should begin 2013 with a comfortable victory.

Gaulois - the fact you can't seem to accept you were hugely favoured by a rosbeef in 2007 makes it kind of hard to take you seriously.

@Jerry, So just a little respect, when I read the NZ newspapers during the last WC it was a SHAME. The French are like this and like this, never a "normal" paper. Why do you need of this, the ABs are not enough stronger ? We're waiting the "thanks" for the color during the final.. We're waiting a "thanks" for the V during the haka, warriors answer to warriors... We're waiting the normal "thanks for this good game" But there isn't, why ? You're (NZ not you) afraid by the french team and you know that this victory is not one ? Referees Joubert has given you a WC final, what do you want ? What else ? Play alone and you will win everytime...

Just for your information, and it's not a pb because it's not your history, "GAULOIS" and not "Gallois", GAULOIS is the first name before "French", (see King and warrior VERCINGETORIX) But you joke about an English (rosbeef) or "British" referee which help a French team ? lol ahahahaha, no be seriuos. Never an English will help a French, remember the 100 year war English Vs French (Jeanne d'Arc). You can't understand this because you're a "british". And you see what you want see. The ABs were not the winners, ask to Australian, SA and even English people (surprise). Everybody say that McCaw and Joubert are a shame.

DMac, You should be fair and examing the number of times the French picked up the ball from the middle of the ruck. The other tactic was picking the ball from the side of teh ruck. i.e. the player on the side of the ruck acted as a halfback. Is this legal? Interesting tactic if it is OK.

Gallois, Having viewed the video-clip French analysis of the WC final, I would be upset if I wa sa Frenchman. However, was it impartial? DId it examine all the decisions that favoured the French? I suspect not. Nevertheless, it was educational. We accept that players always make mistakes in a game, yet expect the ref to be perfect. I would not get too upset. The French have two reputations in NZ (1) inconsistent, unpredictable and therefore dangerous, at ttimes absolutely brilliant, other times, hopeless. (2) the dirtiest players in top rugby. You knocked out the AB in one WC semi-final with illegal dirty tactics. WHen you tried the same against the WB in th final, John Eales told the ref he would take the team off the field if he did not stop the dirty play. After that the WB won convincingly. Perhaps the AB desreved to lose for not doing the same as Eales, or not fighting back. i.e. they were soft. The other game that you do not refer to is the QF when Barnes gifted the French 15 points. Remeber that forward pass and refusing to penalise when the AB were camped on the line?? Was the englishman, Barnes ordered to favour the French? The mistakes were much worse than last week’s match. I am sure that Jerry is still complaining about that!! On balance, I suggest that France have benefitted more than been sinned against by the ref. The English tend to favour the underdog.

They were running that line a number of times. Not quite an outright interference, but illegal IMO. By making it subtle, it would take a brave ref to call back the try and turn it into a penalty. There would have been burning effigies in the streets of Paris.

Ist test of the year always going to be scratchy, patchy and rusty perfomance- AB's have started with a win and I would be worried only if they turned in a susbsequent performance at or below what we saw on Saturday night. So long as they are on the improve with each outing I am a happy littel vegemite. To les blues and their fans- if you were good enough you would have taken the game- you weren't so you didn't- enough said -move on to the second test and deliver what your fans say you can - I look forward to watching. Carl I think you need to take a pill and have a wee lie down mate

But when a team wins vs ABs, a lot of time it is France. No ? Without us the ABs will be alone, is it not better to have a french team against you ? You don't like see these matchs? And the match during the England WC, see again the referee... During the VI nations tournments since the beginning we know that the "British" referees give 7 or 9 points against us just like this. It's like this, "c'est la vie", so we must be better and better everytime. Have you the same thing in SH ? You cannot understand what I say, but it's true. It's difficult for latin people to accept it but the IRB is british and we see this during all matchs. During the last WC, the winner was not the same if the WC wasn't in NZ. Joubert has been little and afraid by the business rugby.

Depends, are you an ungracious loser who can't accept France lost its 3rd final thereby cementing its reputation as a bunch of lily livered surrender monkeys who can't deliver on the biggest stage and is looking for excuses?

To all the Frenchmen whining and moaning about how they were somehow more "worthy" of winning the RWC final lets run through it again shall we ,ABS undefeated in pool play thrashed France ,France loses 2 pool games [were lucky to get to semis] Wales could well say they were robbed of their chance in the final ,ABS cruise through semis and quarters , ABS top overall points scored and have least points scored against them compared to Frances dire effort .France shows up for 1 game against an injury plagued ABS and guess what they scored less points than the ABS so for the terminally stupid that makes the "worthy" winner guess who ?[ heres a clue for the clueless Clouseau types out there the winner usually wears black ,and does the Haka ,and comes from the Northern Hemisphere ,got it yet ? ]

Ahahahaha, you're an absolute joke. No replay was shown cause it was the most obvious penalty in the history of the game. Then again, if a player is stupid enough to run around 3m offside and tackle the halfback while the ball is still in the ruck it doesn't say much for French brains so maybe you do need an explanation.

And why the NZ tv doesn't show an other side of the last ABs penality, just one and only one view. Strange no ? Even a little rugby match on TV we can see 2 or 2 différents view but here during THE BIG final only 1.... If you have one other please give me the URL and if it's clear I will said "sorry" to all NZ. A french supporter.

Oh Jerry ! Nothing else to say ? I see that a lot of NZ are angry when they speak of this final. Never say "good game France" maybe a problem with this victory of Joubert ? Mouarf Mouarf !!!! ABs are not the biggest team if they cannot play without 16 players, shame Full shame as said a great australian player about this final. That's all.

Bazza. I am an expat AllBlack supporter, but I find your jingoistic comments embarrassing. Are you still in primary school? Ever heard of “being a good winner”. Just as important as being a good loser.
