How much of an issue is Tiger's elbow injury?

By Andrew Potter / Roar Guru

Tiger Woods comes into this year’s Open Championship under an injury cloud after he re-injured his elbow during the US Open last month at the Merion Golf Club.

The world number one hasn’t played a tournament since then, but despite only playing nine holes a day this week, Woods has said he’s good to go.

“Everything is good to go,” Woods said on Tuesday. “The elbow feels good.”

He admitted that he took so long off between the two Majors, as he needed a good elbow for the hard ground at Muirfield. But, reports from inside the ropes in Scotland have revealed that he’s only playing nine holes each day to preserve it.

Not an ideal preparation for a Major Championship, right?

While Woods has shrugged off claims that it is still bothering him, you just have to cast your minds back to the 2008 US Open where Woods was forced to take a long layoff after playing through a serious knee injury and more recently last month at Merion, where he kept saying the elbow was fine, before revealing a few days later that he won’t play again before this week.

Woods feels that his game is good enough to win Major number 15 but once he starts finding some of the thick rough that the Open Championship is renowned for, we will then get a true indication just how bad the injury still is, but I still have my doubts whether it will hold up.

That elbow is fine for the soft fairways and minimal rough of the PGA tour but he looks well short for Muirfield. I'll never say he 'can't' but I'm willing to go with 'highly unlikely' The likely contenders are Rose, Michelson, Scott, McDowelll and my smokeys are Branden Grace and Zack Johnson
