Australia still remains one match away from qualification to the World Group after Poland kept alive the tie with a doubles win last win. Join The Roar from 8.00pm AEST as we live blog the final day of the tie between Australia and Poland.
The scenario remains the same as last night with Australia still only needing one more victory to return to the World Group.
Last night, the inexperienced duo of Nick Kyrgios and Chris Guccione almost wrapped up the tie by pushing the Polish doubles team to five sets.
They fell just short with Australia still in a great position to return back to the World Group.
Bernard Tomic will have the first opportunity to win the tie for Australia as he faces Lukasz Kubot in the first match of the day.
The duo has faced each other before at the Sydney ATP event in 2011 with Tomic the winner.
On that day, Tomic was the winner with a 6-3 6-2 victory.
I expect Tomic to be strong in the match and if Kubot plays like he did against Lleyton Hewitt on day 1, then Tomic will win the match.
Having said that, Davis Cup is a funny sport and anything can happen.
I’m going to go Tomic in four sets.
If Australia loses that match then the tie will be down to the last rubber and Hewitt will face Michal Przysiezny in the decider.
Both players haven’t faced each other before and the Polish player was impressive against Tomic in their match on Friday.
The problem for Przysiezny was that at crucial moments in the match, he struggled with the occasion, and lost any momentum he had.
If Hewitt is given that opportunity, he won’t relinquish it and punish Przysiezny at every opportunity he gives.
Hewitt with the extra days rest should be primed and ready to go if he is needed.
Personally though, I can’t see that happening and Australia should win the tie.
Tomic should get the job done and Hewitt can certainly do it if he gets the opportunity.
It could be a historic day for Australian tennis as they return to the World Group for the first time since 2007.
Join me at 8.00pm AEST for the final day of action.
