Cowboys should focus on future, not past

By NF / Roar Guru

Another finals series, and another heartbreaking loss to the North Queensland Cowboys once again.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the loss, it’s safe to say the Cowboys underperformed overall in 2013.

A late season run to the finals saved face from a embarrassing season after so much hype and expectations. Now it’s back to reality and 2014 should be the focus for the Cowboys and it’s supporters.

The idea of rematching Cronulla is ludicrous and cancelling the infamous 7 tackle try in retrospect will never happen, and would create huge precedent and open the floodgates. As it would lead to every questionable ‘try’ be viewed in retrospect and would create a hassle of massive proportions.

As bad as the mistake was, we have to move on and look forward to the future, one without Matty Bowen. One of uncertainty as we will never know what type of Cowboys will show up, the one at their potential or that of every inconsistent side that shows itself up one too many times.

Consistency is key in order to win a premiership, and the Cowboys for one season need to show when that will happen or they may just become the QLD’s Cronulla Sharks. All that time and nothing to show in the cabinet.

Yes the future. Plenty more chances for the magical Bowen-Thurston combination to try again ... except it's a Bowen-less future for the cows. Don't think they want to think about the future at the moment in any way at all.

I believe that the N.Q. Cowboys should pull out of the NRL......for they will never win a premiership.and there is a general feeling in this part of Queensland that there was a great deal more interest in the reformation of the Foley Shield .........rugby league supporters in this part of the state want their footy between the cities and towns as it was in the past.........good hard tribal matches of rivalry. The Cowboys should head up a campaign and be the instigator to explore this pathway. Look lots of people in Brisbane want the Brisbane Rugby League to rise from the dead......they want to see Brothers....Wests ....Toowoomba etc to be born again..........and to blazes with the NRL teams................bring back our game before its to late the catch cry of the NRL as i see it is 'would the last one to leave please turn out the light"

+1.... 12 wins and 12 losses in the regular season to scrape into the finals, Cowboys not exactly world beaters this year

The Cowboys letting go of James Segeyaro was a huge mistake for the 2013 season. However, looking at 2014, the Cows will be well served in the hooking role with Ray Thompson and youngster Jayden Hodges, who is related to Justin. Hodges did have some spark in that position on the weekend.

the Cowboys were in the bottom 5 teams on the ladder for most of the year. Then their coach gets sacked just before they need to make a run for the finals. They make the finals, but at times they didnt seem super keen to beat the Sharks. the better team won that game.
