Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys: 2013 NFL live scores, blog

The Washington Redskins will travel to the biggest stadium in the NFL to play the Dallas Cowboys this morning. Join us for live scores and commentary from 11.30am AEDT.

Both NFC East teams have had disappointing starts to the season and currently have losing records, but the winner of this match-up will be in the drivers’ seat in the division.

In Week 5 the Cowboys faced the undefeated Broncos at home, and produced the game of the year, losing narrowly 51-48 in the final seconds.

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones labelled the game a ‘moral victory’ due to the teams outstanding offensive performance.

Quarterback Tony Romo had a career game and threw for over 500 yards and five touchdowns, all of which was overshadowed by a late-game interception which sealed the game for the Broncos.

Romo’s tendency for late-game blunders has been well-chronicled, but there is no doubting his talent as a legitimate NFL quarterback.

In 2013, Romo has perhaps his best chance in recent years of taking the Cowboys to the top of a weak division and finding some elusive postseason success.

The Redskins had a bye last week, but defeated the Raiders in Week 4. They were down early by two touchdowns, but came back in the game with solid defence to keep Matt Flynn scoreless after the first quarter to win 24-14.

Robert Griffin III, the quarterback of the Redskins, was the offensive rookie of the year in the NFL last season but suffered a torn ACL in the playoffs, calling into question his capability for the 2013 season.

So far, Griffin hasn’t resembled his rookie form, only posting one game with a quarterback rating above 100 this year.

This long-standing divisional rivalry was last on display in Week 17 of the 2012 season, when the Redskins defeated the Cowboys by ten points at home, completing a season sweep and clinching the NFC East title and a playoff spot.

Running back Alfred Morris was the star, rushing for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the game (Morris would finish second in rushing yards in the NFL in his rookie year).

Both teams were fortunate enough to have all their starters participate in practice this week.

Dallas needs an improved performance from their defence this week, specifically through the pass rush. The offensive game plan is likely to continue feeding the ball to major playmakers Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray.

Washington is a team struggling to find its rhythm, and a big road win against a division opponent could go a long way to securing confidence down the stretch. Expect Alfred Morris to have his biggest game of the season.

FULLTIME Redskins 16 – 31 Cowboys Dallas jumps to 3-3, to head the NFC East with Philadelphia. Washington, off a bye, has to evaluate their offensive performance, and perhaps require a change in special teams. Certainly their clock management at the end of the first half was poor. Player of the game was Dwayne Harris, who becomes the third player in NFL history to have a kick and punt return over 85 yards in a game. He also played well on defensive special teams. Dallas visit the Eagles next week for the division lead, and the Redskins will host the Bears. Thanks for joining us on the Roar - next week Peyton comes back to Indy!

Q4 2:00 – Redskins 16 – 31 Cowboys Randle gets another carry up the middle, no gain as Dallas are simply running out the clock - they'll probably have to give it back in about eighty seconds.

Q4 5:20 – Redskins 16 – 31 Cowboys I think RG3 was just trying to throw it out the back of the endzone, but didn't put enough mustard on it and Scandrick got there! Randle breaks one for a gain of 14 on first down.

Griffin throws to the end zone... INTERCEPTED!! Scandrick was the only player within 10 yards of Griffin's attempted throwaway, and he managed to bring it in!
