Melbourne Victory will try to spoil Adelaide United’s ten-year anniversary tonight as they face off at Cooper Stadium. We’ll have live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEDT.

The game will lead off Week 2 of the 2013/14 A-League season, and the first-placed Reds will hope to stay out in front with a victory at home.

This fixture, despite being one of the first A-League rivalries, was not the primary topic of debate in Melbourne this week.

Coach Ange Postecoglou is on the shortlist to be offered the vacant Socceroos coaching position after the sacking of Holger Osieck.

Postecoglou has kept quiet about the affair, but with the 2014 World Cup finals fast approaching, the Socceroos job would be a high honour for the 48-year-old.

In the domestic competition, Victory began the season with a derby against Melbourne Heart which ended goalless, settling both sides in equal fourth.

One boost for the team coming into the game is the return of captain Mark Milligan from a knee injury.

Adelaide’s opening game was far more exciting, featuring four goals and two red cards – the latter two going to United’s Nigel Boogaard and Sanchez Isaias.

The Reds did go on to win the game 3-1 with only nine men, defeating Perth with a key brace from Jeronimo Neumann.

Melbourne hasn’t won in the last four games in Adelaide, including a 4-2 shock loss in Round 10 last year.

In their sole home fixture against the Reds last season in Round 3, Victory were able to come out on top 2-1.

Both teams will be trying to gain momentum with a win tonight, in a fixture that could go down in history as Postecoglou’s final audition for the Socceroos.
