Geelong’s premiership forward James Podsiadly has agreed to join AFL rivals Adelaide on a two-year contract after being delisted by the Cats.

“From a physical and mental point of view, I’m in great shape and very motivated to continue my improvement in the AFL,” Podsiadly said in a statement on Friday.

“I want to continue to work on my game with the Adelaide coaches and become a better player.

“I’m excited about starting the pre-season in a new state, at a new club and with a new group of guys. I can’t wait to get over there and get started.”

Podsiadly, 32, was lured to the Crows by coach Brenton Sanderson, who was a mentor to the 83-gamer when an assistant coach at Geelong, a stint which ended in 2012 when he won Adelaide’s top job.

Adelaide’s list manager David Noble was thrilled to secure Podsiadly.

“James has plenty of good footy left in him,” Noble said.

“He’s an experienced, premiership player from a highly successful football environment.

“We see James playing a similar role to (veteran Crows fullback) Ben Rutten in terms of mentoring our key-position players.”
