It may not be right now, but in 10 years or so Western Sydney versus Melbourne Victory will become the A-League’s biggest spectacle.

While the two city derbies currently create the biggest atmospheres, it will be the navy blue taking on the red and the black that will soon create the biggest and loudest crowds.

The two clubs, without question, house the two biggest active sections, in the Northern Terrace and the Red and Black Bloc.

Both sets of fans are passionate, colourful and full of noise.

Last season also showed the potential in the fixture, with the RBB becoming the first set of away fans to sell out their section of away seats and consuming a section of the general admission section of AAMI Park.

The Northern Terrace has long been the measuring stick of active support, without any real consistent rival until the RBB arrived, quickly creating a culture that even the Northern Terrace has to respect.

As the two compete to become the biggest active support groups, the rivalry between the two will develop, thus creating a sense of importance to each fixture between the two clubs.

And when there is a sense of importance to a fixture, the active support will lift for the occasion – as can be seen by the derbies.

And if both active sections are in full voice, the colour, noise and passion will create an atmosphere that could rival a European fixture and become a real showcase for the league.
