Resting Wade leaves question marks for the Heat

By Skinnada / Roar Rookie

Preparing at home for yesterday’s game between my Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers I almost fell off my chair when I read my Twitter feed.

The news said “Miami coaches advise Dwayne Wade will be ‘resting’ from today’s game”. Say what?

I for one could not believe what I had read!

The coaching staff said this was a precaution in a back to back game. The Sixers went on to win the game and deservedly so.

No doubt the staff are looking at the ‘big picture’ as far as having a healthy Dwayne Wade in May 2014 for the playoffs.

However, this got me thinking. If Dwayne Wade is being ‘rested’ in game two of the season when only playing 36 minutes in the opener the previous night, then this creates an issue!

Regardless of whether the Heat three-peat in 2014, how is LeBron James to re-sign with Miami when the second best player on your team rests so regularly.

LeBron moving forward will need more help to keep the Heat atop the NBA.

LeBron and his family are clearly loving life in Miami and if he feels he has enough help to compete for championship every season I think he will stay.

But will he have enough assistance from next season from the rest of the roster? Wade will rest more in the years ahead and he wants to be finish career in Miami so he won’t move on.

With the current collective bargaining agreement the way it is, the Heat will cut more off their team salary next season meaning the big three will be hard to keep together.

Bosh seems to be more expendable, but with Wade sitting out regularly it may cross LeBron’s mind to go and join someone like Kyrie Irving in Cleveland.

There is a much younger talent that plays night in and night out!

Miami will need to retool massively in the summer of 2014 for LeBron to stay on. Wade will have to take a massive paycut to play as ‘third option’. This will allow Pat Riley to have enough money left over to bring in a ‘second option’ that plays night in and night out as well as some new role players.

Wade had a very efficient season last year given his knee issues but he needs to allow another younger player to come in on less money than Bosh that contributes every game.

Role Players such as Ray Allen and Shane Battier will most likely retire so the summer of 2014 will bring a massive overhaul if the Miami Heat are to keep The King in South Florida!

Thanks for reading Guys & girls. My concern is not this season at all as Miami just need to be fit and firing come the playoffs. Thats all good. However, my concern is after this season is completed no matter what the result. LeBron wants to compete for a title every year, and there will have to be salary cut from the roster next year and that may well be Bosh. How confident would LeBron be that Wade can be there for him night in and night out for next 3 seasons with no Bosh given Wade's Knee ongoing issues & precautionary measures already. I dont care much for regular season and am not bothered by being 1-2 currently. But I am concerned about LeBron re-signing with Miami in 2014 given they will have to cut some players and with Wade playing less and less over past few seasons.

The Heat will be happy to reach the playoffs with a 2nd or 3rd seed in the East. Given the historical weakness of the Eastern Conference they have no need to burn out in the regular season.

It seems LeBron is resigned to Wade having to sit out some games, especially early in the season. He's talking about playing even better this year by passing out more to his team-mates. Someone in "Open Court" (Ernie Johnson, Steve Kerr, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, et al) said it's hard for the Heat to 3-peat because of fatigue. The past two finals, they have been playing two months longer than the other teams.

This doesn't bode well, at all. Probably won't see out the season. A shame, cause when fit, he's pure class and unstoppable.
