Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Heart: A-League live scores, blog

By Patrick Hargreaves / Roar Guru

Brisbane Roar host Melbourne Heart in what is shaping as an exciting and attacking fixture, with the Roar looking to create space between them and the pack with three points, whilst Melbourne Heart are desperate for a win. Join us for live scores and commentary from 5.00pm AEDT.

Brisbane outclassed Wellington in the second half and Sydney throughout, butfaced a mirror in Melbourne Victory, who were not fooled by Brisbane’s Berisha-less attack.

It is notable that the Roar have had more defenders score so far than attackers. Whether it is a symptom of their system or just the quality of their attackers remains to be seen, but it could turn into a frustrating Sunday for the Queenslanders.

Melbourne Heart matched Melbourne Victory and the Mariners in the opening rounds, however as they flew across the Nullabor they decided it was best to land the plane in their own 18-yard box against Perth.

Heart aren’t likely to keep a clean sheet in Brisbane and will have to score at least two goals to win.

Rumblings of disappointment in Aloisi have continued – how long will the Heart board accept mediocrity?

Matt McKay reckons that Brisbane are better than the team that won two titles, which was either a ploy to scare Postecoglou or a welcoming gesture to Mike Mulvey.

However, a dodgy 2-1 win over Wellington, and putting four past a Sydney team that has recruited poorly and with little tactical direction, probably inflated Brisbane’s ability.

The Victory game didn’t allow for as much space and time with the ball, and with young man Kwame Yeboah imitating Berisha for the first time, Brisbanes attack were not as potent and guided.

However, they set up well and if wasn’t for a basic error by Michael Theo, would have gained a point.

Ivan Franjic and David Williams are arguably the two men in form for their respected clubs, and will more than likely be involved in the goals scored.

Heart are expected to name fan favourite Pat Gerhardt to pair Rob Wielart in defence.

Heart will be defensive and look to outpace Matt Smith and Jade North with Golgol Mehbratu and Williams. It is a clash of cultures, however neither of the teams were at their best last week.

Massimo Murdocca and Andrew Redmayne return to face their former club, which will add some spice to the game.

Berisha won’t back for this week. Henrique hasn’t been in favour for what seems like a few seasons, however I tip him to start over Yeboah.

Harry Kewell has been named in an initial 18 by Aloisi, and Heart are desperate to get him back as they wilted in Perth.

Much to the dismay of the Heart’s supporters, young gun Jeremy Walker has again been overlooked for Jason Hoffman.

My favourite footballer for no reason other than he’s my age and plays for Melbourne, Ben Garuccio has also made the final 18. But Aloisi may look to play Kewell and Mifsud, in spite of Hearts’ strategy to simply outpace the high line defence.

The last time these teams played was on 24/03/2013, the result was Brisbane Roar 2-0 Melbourne Heart.

The last time these teams played was the first time in the last five matches between the two that Brisbane Roar has managed to beat Melbourne Heart.

Brisbane Roar have never failed to score a goal when playing at home against Melbourne Heart

Melbourne Heart have not had a win in their last eight matches.

Prediction: 2-2.

Broich and Franjic, Murdocca and a Heart penalty after Jade North fouls a flying Mehbratu.

He was very good. Very lively, made chances out of nothing and took the game to the heart even when his team mates were just walking. Good pick up by Brisbane.

I thought Petratos was also very good when he came on. Not afraid to shoot either.

Actually I think you're right - the stupor of the entire match clouded my memory.

I think the end scoreline sort of distorts the first half. Heart had more clear cut chances in the first half.

I wouldn't even say Heart "tested" early, I'd say they were solid / difficult to break down but not threatening.

Heart tested early but Brisbane walked home in the end. Mariners vs. Brisbane is shaping up as game of the season.

FULL TIME 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart . Henrique two, Smith one. Heart played well for opening 20 minutes to half an hour. Need to find a finisher in January or their Youth squad. Should of punished Brisbane, who scored early in the second half and coasted to an easy 3-0 win. My prediction was way off. Berisha isn't needed and Henrique might find himself in favour again. Brisbane have been the most impressive team so far. Victory might challenge that tomorrow, but as it stands, Brisbane Roar are 1st.

92' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart Heart long ball to Mifsud. Who doesn't do much. Back with the heart. Mehbrahtu fools every one. Broich released by Petratos, who crosses, they don't shoot and it falls to Redmayne. Full time.

90' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart + 3 minutes added on. Gerhardt tries from distance but it's weak, Heart operating with a back 3 hoping to pull one back.

89' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart Heart get the ball back through Mauk who passes to mifsud inside the box! Just finish it! He tries to dance but looks more like a 3 footed rottwieler and loses possession.

86' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart Heart trying to penetrate the roar defence but they look lost. Mauk has a few nice touches however. Retre is about to come on. Retre ON Dugandzic OFF. Retre and Mauk are the future. The future being next week, as heart need to get their campaign underway against WSW. Just get off North.

80' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart Heart get the ball to Dugandzic who has a few step overs. His cross is straight to Theo, however. Roar have an attack but Petratos can't do much with it and it's a goal kick.

78' 3-0 Brisbane vs Heart Ramsay OFF Mehbratu ON. Franjic wins a corner and encourages The Den. Mckay finds himself with the ball in the box, his cross is to no one.
