Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers: A-League live scores, blog

By Zee / Roar Guru

The match of the round takes place at Suncorp Stadium, when Brisbane Roar take on Premiers Western Sydney Wanderers.

After the Wanderers’ unbeaten start to the season, and Brisbane’s solid start to the season, this fixture is a juicy one.

Can Brisbane be the team to finally end the Wanderers’ unbeaten streak?

Head-to-head these sides have played four times, with the Wanderers outstandingly taking out all four matches.

Even at home, Brisbane have a fight on their hands. While the Wanderers are red-hot at the moment, the return of Besart Berisha and the on-form Thomas Broich could be the game breakers to finally end Brisbane’s hoodoo against the Wanderers.

For the Roar, Ivan franjic and Matt McKay return to the side from international duty, Besart Berisha makes his return from injury, while Shane Stefanutto and Liam Miller miss out through injury.

For the Wanderers, Tony Popovic has promoted Michael Beauchamp and Jason Trifiro to the match-day squad, while Tomi Juric and Youssef Hersi miss out through injury.

Prediction
Going for a 1-2 win for the boys from Wanderland.

WSW may be weakened without Juric, but I just can’t see this side losing, they are on a hot streak and are oozing with confidence.

Clayts - You make many good points in your answer but you have to widen the scope of your thinking & look for areas in the Roar game that can be improved no matter their standing in the competition. They are winning games,,no doubt ,but even in these winning performances there are mistakes being made & that is MM;s job,to fix those errors or procure players who can perform at a higher level. This may sound a bit unfair to younger players but you always have to remember this competition is the highest standard of football played in this country & it is in everyone's interest that the standard is constantly improved Ok? jb

Ha you kind of half-heartedly borrowed it more like ;) But great atmosphere all around the ground, and the individual brilliance of the goals, on the back of the ability those particular roar players have to run at the opposition confidently, was what won it. Can't wait for the return!

Quite the contrary. The cricket would have taken several thousand off the attendance. Very few people could watch cricket all day then go the football, then there's the expense.

In fact (and I expect to be howled down) the Wanderers are the team out of the two sides that seem to have less depth. Without Juric or Hersi (but mostly Hersi) they don't look anywhere near as threatening up front. They were lucky to beat Victory IMO. Ono went off and although they bossed the 2nd half or large parts of it, I didn't think they really did too much with it. Jb: you may be right that the current Roar players are playing to their potential, but lets face it, they've just beaten the Mariners away and the Wanderers at home without a full strength lineup. Yes they lost to Jets away but as you say, they were made to pay for silly errors at the back. That's something they can control. Fix that and I can't see them losing too many matches, particularly at home

BTW everyone, I was simply repeating what all the experts were saying preseason. Tongue firmly in cheek. Seems like everyone has changed their tunes now though

Cameron - Clayts is not so far out in his general assessment. From a purely techical point of view there were players playing for Roar in this game who should not have been there, for the standard being shown by at least 75% of the players on both sides was actually above the standards that these lads can presently attain. Mike Mulvey is about to enter a stage of his coaching career where he has never been before, that being where he has to start looking to improve his team despite them sitting top of the league after 6 games. This may seem a bit harsh but he has to remember there is improvement to be made in every team & it's important the coach of a winning team never forgets this fact of life. Now I know Miller & Steff were not available but Steff is nearing the end of his career & I for one was very glad that Hersi was not playing against Steff's stand in, young Brown. Overall the turnover of ball to opponents is still far too high & Roar were lucky tonight that that weakness did not bite them on the bum Two passing errors have caused goals in the last 2 weeks & tonight it could have been more but for the ineptitude of the WSW finishing. Cameron read this carefully & then if you get a chance to view the game again you will see what I mean.Improvement must always be strived for, that's how you stay in front. Your mate jb

Punter - Average after 3 home games is 18,639. Last season the first 3 home matches attracted 42,900 so this years 3 home match total of 55,918 is actually a 30% increase on last year.which is way above the HAL gain in the same period. jb

Besh should have had 3! The atmosphere was fantastic, Yeboa gave us a couple of minutes peace at the end, but the score line flattered us. Corey Brown is learning his trade and gave us a few heart in the mouth moments. We gave Besh a standing ovation when he came off and I reckon that was the best game I've watched at Suncorp since the 7-? touch up we gave Adelaide a couple of years ago. Wow.... Just wow. My only other observation; we miss Mitch Nichols.... No attacking mid. Comye back Mitch, all is forgiven! Oh, and Jerome Pollens was on his best behaviour!!

What a game! Up there with the best I've seen in the A-League. Caps off a perfect day of sport in Brisbane: I got to see Australia destroy England at the Gabba, then caught a bus across town to watch the Roar (finally) get one over the Wanderers.

As Cameron said above. Great atmosphere and attendance. Stoked. Now I can watch my foxtel recording after getting back from the game.

Really? 22000 against SFC and 15000 against Heart. We don't usually get 15,000 against Heart I can tell you that much.
