Tonight’s fight between Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine and ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley is arguably the most important fight of each man’s respective careers – and we’re live from 7:30pm AEDT with the full undercard and main event.

Mundine vs Mosley preview: Both Mundine and Mosley are fighting to maintain relevance on the world stage and prove that they are up to the elite level fighters.

For Anthony Mundine, this fight is his last chance at chasing the ‘superfights’ he has been talking about for the last few years. Mundine continues to chase names such as Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, Alvarez and Cotto – all names that have conquered Shane Mosley.

To have any hope of continuing his dream, he’ll certainly have to beat Mosley, and do it emphatically.

To do this Mundine has boiled down to the lightest he has ever weighed in his sporting career at 69.9kg. Shane Mosley steps up in weight slightly to take this fight and has fought as a welterweight previously, so will be much more comfortable.

Mundine on the other hand is fighting three weight divisions down from where he entered the sport, something that is uncommon in the sport of boxing.

Such a significant weight cut can be disastrous for a fighter not experienced in cutting such weight. The cut, plus the fact that Mundine is now 38 years of age means that the physical shape that Mundine presents himself in for the fight won’t be known until the bell sounds for the first round.

Shane Mosley is also on his last chance to show the world of boxing that he is still a factor on the world title scene.

Mosley has won only one of his last five fights, with his only victory his most recent against Pablo Cesar Cano in May this year.

Prior to the Cano fight, were losses to Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Saul Alvarez and a draw with Sergio Mora. Whilst losses against such names are not that disastrous given their standing in world boxing, it is Mosley’s performance in these fights that is more alarming.

Mosley lost comfortable points decisions to Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Alvarez, and seemed to compete only for the first half of the fight before going into damage control once he began falling behind on the scorecards.

At the age of 42 and given all he has done in the sport you do question the motivations of Mosley continuing his boxing career, but we must take word that his intentions are honourable and another world title is the driving force.

Mundine comes into the Mosley fight having fought just twice in two years, against journeyman Bronco McKart and of course in January against Daniel Geale. Mundine was clearly outclassed by Geale in their January fight.

Sluggish ticket sales and a lack of interest in the fight were some of the contributing factors to the postponement of the original Mundine-Mosley stoush, with the Australian public clearly doubting the man’s credibility.

The same can be said for Mosley, who retired at the end of 2012 after three straight losses. The boxing world also doubts the credibility of Mosley. Sugar Shane will be looking to turn the doubters into believers with an impressive performance against Mundine.

The fight remains intriguing, with so many questions being asked and many of the answers still unknown. The future legacies of both men go on the line, as does the chance to extend their career into a further chapter and towards another world title.

A loss will certainly end the dream for one, which means this fight could be anything.

Undercard: We’ll be bringing you the full card of fights tonight, which will include Blake Ferguson’s debut against Goulburn excavator Luke Turner.
