Frank Farina and Sydney FC climb to the top

By Zee / Roar Guru

After a horrid few weeks to start the year, Sydney FC shook off the horrible vibes and got themselves in a very turned on mood.

They have won four matches on the trot, which is something that usually isn’t Sydney’s forte.

And we can’t just put this down to Alessandro Del Peiro…everyone is stepping up.

Farina has done something magical that has made these boys unite and want to play and fight for each other.

As a Sydney supporter, the team unity has been a great sight to behold.

And to even continue the good fortunes of late, the news that Tiago Calvano has been suspended for eight matches is another step in the right direction.

I think the reason we are clicking is because Frank Farina has finally found the vision and direction he wants this club to go in, and he has instilled that vision into his players through trust, and loyalty to selection.

The boys have all stood up.

Vedran has been real solid and Seb Ryall has just been something else this season.

He’s matured, and he is putting in consistent performances.

Over the seasons consistency has been the one thing that has bogged down his game.

It is so great that he has challenged this flaw, and come good.

Petkovic has improved at a good rate, while Abbas has been surprisingly good.

I’ve really enjoyed Chris Naumoff in the Starting XI. He has injected some much needed pace, and attacking potency to the side.

His touch, composure and maturity has been a great sight to behold, and at 18 years of age there is hopefully so much goodness yet to come.

The signing of Despotovic has been a revelation, he adds a little bit of spice, a little bit of good uncertainty, and a little bit of soaring Balkan power to the Sydney FC attack.

But the two who have really stepped up their game is Joel Chianese and Michael Carrick’s old mate – Richie Garcia.

Joel Chianese is always the first person Sydney fans turn to inflict blame, but the best thing Farina has done for his game is giving him full run of it.

His touch, and movement have improved from season’s past, and this might the one season this promising Italian Bambi finally asserts his place at the club and fulfils his potential.

What’s exciting about Farina’s uprising is that its only Round 8, after the gloom of the first few rounds, this tidal change has been a welcome one.

And the belief has been instilled back into the supporters, not just because we are winning but because Franky’s boys are playing for each other.

There is a long way yet to go, but with the continuation of whatever is making this resurgence occur, and the stability of the current side, the team will be a dominant force and contender for this season’s prize.

Is this the best top 5 in terms of health of the league? The 5 best supported teams at the top. I would like it to stay this way. Should provide for a massive finals series.

Reality is just around the corner. Sure everyone is saying abbas played good yesterday however if that was roar, wanderers, victory or any good counter attacking team we would have been 2-0 down within 20 minutes thanks to abbas silly runs and poor tracking back. Carle and Thompson had to cover him creating holes in the middle of the field where they are supposed to be. We are playing sketchy football its just some luck has come our way finally but to sa we are anywhere near the top is ludicrous. Our backline love to make attacking runs and sure it has given us some positive contributions but i dare say in the long run its going to cost us some vital points against the better opposition, we will get exposed at the back and as good as vedran may be playing he still gives you reason to be on the edge of your seat, not the safest pair of hands in the league. Our tactics are quite good its just i think our players structurally will get found out if we dont stick to positional play more often than not. look at central coast disciplined structurally and tactically and its hard to take points of them home or away.

I'm not sure if you came up with the heading to this article Zee, but even when Sydney had won last night, they were never top. They were second on goals and when looking at it from a premiership perspective, 2nd is correct, not first.. Unless you mean something else by top, in which case I'm stumped?

Me.... I think he has the ability to transform the way SFC play out from the back, he was a Barcelona B player and understands the philosophy of a short passing game playing out from the back. I have seen him play and think he can do it better than most of our other players who have been chosen for that role. Put him along side Nikola Petkovic and in time we'll see the best CD back combination SFC has had in quite a while.

The Guy is one of the WORST footballers to have ever graced a football pitch. Name me one Sydney FC supporter that is hurt by this suspension

"And to even continue the good fortunes of late, the news that Tiago Calvano has been suspended for eight matches is another step in the right direction." I'm curious to konw why you think Tiago Calvano's 8 week suspension is another good step in the right direction...?
