Geale calls out Golovkin after already turning down the fight

By Dushi / Roar Rookie

Former middleweight champion Daniel Geale called out WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in an interview yesterday, saying that he’d “love to fight Sturm for the IBF title but would also like to fight Gennady Golovkin for the WBA title”.

“Gennady Golovkin is beatable,” Geale told Fightnews.com, “and I’m the middleweight to do it. Golovkin done it easy against Matthew Macklin, but again my style would be a problem for him.”

Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, offered a quick jab of a response to Geale’s comments.

“Geale can fight Golovkin anytime for the WBA belt he gave up,” he said. “We actually made an offer to his promoter for the fight on February 1 in Monaco, but it was turned down.”

Geale was stripped of the esteemed WBA “super” title back in January for avoiding his mandatory fight against Golovkin, instead choosing to fight Anthony Mundine for a $2 million pay day.

“I am aware of my mandatory obligations,” said Geale. “However, I felt that the challenge from Anthony Mundine was an opportunity to settle the score once and for all.”

The belt was subsequently given to Golovkin, who will make his 10th WBA title defence against Osumanu Adama on Feburary 1 next year. Loeffler has told Geale’s management they can have the bout after Adama if they are still interested.

There is a bit of an oddity here as Golovkin’s team asked for the Geale fight – and Geale being the IBO No.1 fighter could have quite easily made the fight happen.

Geale, however, chose to wait until Golovkin announced a willing opponent in IBO No.3 raked Adama to publicly to call out the current WBA/IBO champ. It’s a bit disappointing that Golovkin announces his next fight and a week later Geale says he is now interested.

It looks likely that the Felix Sturm versus Geale rematch will take place in Germany next year as it makes much more financial sense for both parties.

Sturm want’s to avenge his loss to Geale, and for geale this will present another opportunity to take another world title from the now four-time world champion – and to get his old IBF belt back where it belongs.

Ive watched the mundine vs kessler fight at lEast 3 times. it's very inspiring for me. That was the best i had seen him fight and he was very humble in defeat because kessler boxed amazingly well also.

It just shows how much the injury to Sergio Martinez hurt Daniel Geale. HBO had agreed terms with Lou DiBella and Geale's promoter. But the knee injury Martinez sustained against Chavez Jr, and failure to allow it to heal prior the Martin Murray fight - cost Geale a very lucrative unification fight in Las Vegas.

I think Geale would make a very interesting Golovkin fight because geale is very aggressive. I cant think of one fighter who has really taken the fight to Golovkin and Geale is the type of person who doesn't wait for things to happen in the ring. he makes them happen. I'm thinking knockout to Golovkin but still signifcantly boosting daniel's career and gaining a new fan base in the USA.

what does that say about mundine?the first time they fought mundines 9th pro fight and if soliman did win it was just.mundine fought him twice more, daniel geale hasn't faced him once and they are in the same division. mundine has faced much harder opponents then geale has. id like to see geale fight kessler in his prime.

TBH Geale will offer very little against Golovkin. Geale didn't really have the power to back up Barker, aside from the body shot in R6. Golovkin hits like hell and I think he'll take Geale out inside 4 rounds.

Coz Geale is wary of Soliman and knows he has the ability to beat him. Soliman is a good fighter, really agressive, he beat Mundine I reckon once but got jibbed by the judges. All in his division are wary of Soliman he is a dangerous opponent. Agressive, has a kick boxing background, fights a very street fighter style, has the ability to get a KO. And fighters are wary of him. Mundine beat him 2nd time round, but Soliman's style could cause Geale problems, so that's why he's not fighting him I reckon.

Golovkin is likely to move up to super middleweight in 2014. His camp are eyeing fights with Froch, Chavez jr and Ward

Now that Gennady is booked all the middleweights are coming out of hiding willing to fight him and I expect them to go right back under their rock come Feb. 2nd.

Geale vs Soliman is a Big Money fight. Its a fight that is easy to organise. Its a fight the fans want and its a fight that should have happened. Don't know what to say about it really.. i dont know what the problem is and why it hasn't been organized.

gee this is a very funny story,i hope soliman gets his fight against sturm not geale.then i hope geale and soliman fight a fight witch should have happened already.can you imagine if it was mundine who gave his belt to ggg.the attack would be far more vicious.

Sturm's most lucrative fight would be against Sergio Martinez. But even when Sturm held thr WBA title, he dodged Martinez. Sturm Geale 2 would be a decent fight.

Its in sturms best interest to rematch geale or soliman. Financially at least. I think it makes geale look really bad calling out someone who already offered him a fight that he turned down.

Geale's only mentioning Golokin as to ensure Sturm agrees to a rematch. Geale's not got a lot of options.
