BBL 2013/14: Adelaide Strikers team preview

The Adelaide Strikers haven’t really struck anyone as a team to fear in the Big Bash.

With their untraditional blue strip and foreign-born captain, the Strikers haven’t really found their feet in the competition.

They do, however, boast some of Australia’s best domestic players. Michael Klinger, Phil Hughes, Callum Ferguson, Jon Holland and Kane Richardson are all contracted players.

Unlike most Big Bash teams, the Strikers don’t have many international players. Only Johan Botha and Alex Hales are from overseas, though Botha has though been playing for South Australia since 2012.

Last season the Strikers just missed out on a semi-final berth, finishing fifth out of the eight teams.

Strikers wicket-keeper Tim Ludeman is one of the best keepers in the country, despite never playing for Australia.

In his seven matches last season, Ludeman smashed 185 runs at an average of 30.83. Ludeman also took one of the catches of the summer last season, taking a brilliant catch diving back and catching the ball in his right glove.

He’s certainly a player you might consider in your Big Bash fantasy team.

The Strikers also have local boy and former Australian representative fast bowler Shaun Tait. Tait, nicknamed “The Wild Thing”, has scared multiple batsmen out with his vicious bouncers and unplayable yorkers.

With Tait being injury prone due to his slinging bowling action he can only bowl in short sharp burst of four overs, so the Big Bash game suits Tait like Vegemite on toast.

With all of these players in their squad, I really could see the Strikers winning the third BBL.
