BREAKING: NRL announce Cronulla Sharks sanctions - $1m fine, suspensions

NRL CEO Dave Smith has announced a breach notice has been issued to the Cronulla Sharks, with a one million dollar fine for the club, for failing to safeguard the health and well-being of its players.

Smith has said this afternoon that $400,000 of one million dollar fine handed to the Sharks will be suspended, permitting the Club meet certain conditions related to governance.

The 12 month ban issued to coach Shane Flanagan could be reduced to nine-months on the provision that he completes ‘proper training’.

Smith stated: “Under NRL rules, Flanagan is suspended. His employment contract is with club and a matter of discussion for them.”

Ex-Cronulla head conditioner Trent Elkin’s has been de-registered from the NRL. Elkin won’t be eligible to apply for a position with an NRL club for two years.
