Western Sydney Wanderers vs Central Coast Mariners: A-League live scores, blog

By Nick Richardson / Roar Guru

Western Sydney Wanderers host the Central Coast Mariners in a rematch of last season’s grand final as Round 11 concludes with a Monday night fixture. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.00pm AEDT.

Western Sydney
The Wanderers have a chance to close the gap on league leaders Brisbane Roar, after they went down 2-0 to the Newcastle Jets on Friday night.

The Wanderers have had a impressive start to the season, with their only loss coming at the hands of Brisbane Roar.

The Wanderers ended their short stint of poor form last week beating a disciplined Newcastle outfit 1-0. The Wanderers had failed to get a victory from their previous three outings, but showed their quality by bouncing back.

Central Coast
The Central Coast played their last match on Thursday against Wellington in a rescheduled Round 6 fixture, walking away from the mid-week game with a 1-0 victory.

The Mariners have had a steady start to the series sitting pretty in sixth with an opportunity to jump the queue into third with a win.

The new Mariners boss Phil Moss is still under some pressure after he was chosen to fill the massive shoes of Graeme Arnold. If he were able to grab three points from this fixture it would release a lot of pressure.

X-Factor
Youssouf Hersi
The Dutchman is yet to hit full stride after spending several weeks on the sideline with a foot injury earlier in the campaign.

While the Wanderers have several game breakers, Hersi is their main x-factor and they are a much more potent attacking force when the right-winger is at his best.

Prediction
The Wanderers are going to be too strong at home.

Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 Central Coast Mariners

It's great how our defenders put their body on the line to prevent goals. I think there were about 3 clear CCM chances which were blocked with last ditch tackles. Just shows how passionate the defenders are for the team and how much a clean sheet means.

Just got home. All class tonight. First half was the best I've ever seen us play; the rest was cruise control. - Spiranovic is Der Kaiser come alive. - Juric is immense. Exceptional talent. - Polenz immaculate.

First half was some genuinely excellent football all round, Plenty of chances going both ways. I thought we looked very tidy in the second half. We were pretty much in cruise control mode by the hour mark, a 3rd goal would've been a nice bonus. So happy we were finally taking shots on goal for a change! The final 20 the crowd was very much interested in itself and getting the party started. We did a bit of a light show, the usual Poznan and as many "Who Do We Sing For" as we could fit in. But overall i felt that this was our best performance so far this season and a great way to lead into the huge clash in Melbourne in 5 days. We might not be the prettiest team on the field, but we look the most convincing, at least defensively and as a unit.

I still don't see how Central Coast deserves an A League team.

good win by WSW. I really need to go to Wanderland one day. Seemed like a party atmosphere tonight. CCM are on a downward spiral. All they are thinking about is finances and selling players to make ends meet. I also don't know if Phil Moss is an A-League coach. As for Juric, I reckon he should go to Brazil. Might be premature from my behalf, but there is something about Tomi!

Central Coast Mariners 0-2 Western Sydney Wanderers FT This game has just fizzled out in the second half with the Wanderers looking very good. The Mariners have been poor and Flores pulled off the miss of the season. This game did not fail to disappoint in the first half, but did nothing of such quality in the second. Both teams will look to improve from this, but the Wanderers will take this result as they look to close in on Brisbane at the top. Thanks for tuning in and good night.

Central Coast Mariners 0-2 Western Sydney Wanderers 86th minute MATT Simon showing all his class by standing a mile offside during a fast break. Mariners corner goes to SIMON who has an air swing at a free header. Great work by the tall striker.

Central Coast Mariners 0-2 Western Sydney Wanderers 84th minute APPIAH getting treatment. Taking more time off the clock. Staying on though. Duke with a wild shot at goal, only misses the goal by a couple of KILOMETRES.

Central Coast Mariners 0-2 Western Sydney Wanderers 80th minute Polenz having a little tussle with SIMON. Simon standing tall. Wanderers corner has gone long for a goal kick. Very dull at the moment. Poljak has a very long shot and it doesn't get off the ground.
