Sydney plastic surgeon Darryl Hodgkinson’s Victoire is expected to be named the Sydney to Hobart’s overall winner.

The 15-metre Cookson 50 sits top of the standings with its rivals appearing out of contention after winds eased on Sunday night.

NSW boat Wild Rose was considered its main challenger but needed to finish well inside its expected arrival time of Monday afternoon (AEDT).

Victoire arrived at 8am on Sunday morning in ninth position overall.

It leads Victorian yacht Veloce and NSW’s Celestial in the standings for the handicap-decided Tattersall’s Cup.

Twenty-nine boats finished on Monday morning with 55 still racing and 10 retired.

Rush had signalled it would continue after crewman Ben Renshaw suffered a broken leg but quit the race.

Winds have eased from gales to 15-knot northwesterlies on the Tasmanian coast but will could reach 25-30 knots later on Monday.
