Anthony Mundine's next opponent named

By Dushi / Roar Rookie

It’s official – Anthony Mundine will be heavy favourite when he takes on American fighter Carson Jones (35-10-3, 25 KOs) at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on January 29.

Carson is 25th ranked light middleweight in the world, compared to Anthony who is currently sitting at an impressive sixth.

Why Mundine couldn’t or didn’t get a bigger name eludes me. This is nothing more than a stay busy fight and Anthony shouldn’t be expecting record breaking pay per view buys.

Even with a dominant victory there is nothing to be gained from this fight.

This seems like a boring fight for the fans who have seen him repeatedly state, “I only want to fight the best” and recently saying in an interview “my next opponent will be top 15 for sure”.

So much for that.

Team Mundine has already come out saying “Whilst other options within the top ten had significantly out-priced themselves, Carson Jones offers the best possible opportunity within a tight timeframe.”

Mundine’s quick return to the ring is a big plus for the fans, having just over two months between fights, while another well known fighter, Daniel Geale, has been out of the ring for nearly four months and hasn’t even announced a fight date yet.

If Mundine loses to a no-name fighter in Carson, much like his unlucky loss to Garth Wood in 2010, then the lights are out on his career once and for all.

Anything less then an absolutely dominant victory will leave people questioning the integrity of his highly praised win over American great Shane Mosley back in November.

I am still going to stick by Mundine. I will watch him comfortably win this fight.

I will then hope that his next fight will be this fabled “big name” he has being talking about.

After 13 years of watching and supporting the proud Australian athlete we call ‘The Man’, my patience is finally starting to wear thin.

I would like to see Mundine at 140/145, if he is talking about Pac or May. Begged and paid 1 million to have Shane Mosley's name on his resume when Shane's going rate was only at $150,000 -200,000 per fight just before the Mundine fight. All in all, at the end of the day i have only one thing to say............' Mundine had it coming '. He should stick to guys his size and weight at Middle Weight if he still wants to prove anything anymore. There's no way he ll have a fight with Pacquaio of Floyd.

He will when they give him a shot. No one wants to fight someone who has speed and can out box you. Is easier to promote someone that is not so dangerous and make it look like a good fight than one that will be a good fight but is a risk. When your on top you choose who you fight. Look at other fighters they want the fight they want and not the mandatory challenger so give up the title instead. It is a buissness and is about the dollars

If you can't see that mundine does all that for publicity. Look at the free advertising he gets from being a mouth. Very smart man. Jeff that's what he gets not nice he lost money but you can't go round saying how shit someone is and then try make money off him

Yeh the same bloke that has refused to play the national anthem before the fight starts,oh the same Bloke that makes disgracefully comments around 911,oh that's right he makes disgracefully comments about Geale and his family, Oh yeah he refused to pay a percentage of fight money for indigenous Aussies in rematch with green but refused, Isn't this same good bloke that bagged French after French lost 400000 dollars invested in getting mosely here to fight him. Thanks for heads up John Napier he's a top bloke and these are only a coulple things I could be bothered to mention, make sure you Buy the garbage at the end of the month and if money's tight stand outside the stadium on fight night cause they generally give plenty Of tickets out for free, Enjoy the hype mate..embrace it, it's real..........

Agreed there. I have always thought green was good slugger but not been much of a fan as I knew him as a teenager and was full of himself but would have been good of him to have a couple of more big fights then give it up. It's well known there will be a mundine green 2 but stop bagging mundine after all his fights and get back in the ring for your fans Danny

I agree with you there that's why mayweather will stay away. I love mayweather but he will not take risks wants to set a record first most wins with no losses. I don't know what everyone else thinks but mundine against Mosley was the best I have ever seen him fight. His loss to woods was cleaver of his team they knew mundine rides the ropes and had them that soft the top rope was just about touching the second. Smart move billy

PAC man will put up a good fight but mundine will out box him. Just my opinion but admire mundine 50% of fights are won in your mind and people need to stop bagging him for being so full of himself. You won't win a fight going into it thinking your going to loose.

Well said john. You are very optimistic about mundine's potential which is great! But even as a big mundine fan myself.. i dont know if he could destroy pacman. Definitely Rios haha

I think mundine would beat molina without to much trouble. The other 4 would be wonderful challenging fights for "the man"

Yes frankie, There is a big difference between a split decision and a unanimous decision. The thing about split decision as you can usually argue either way like when geale fought barker. But with a unanimous decision it is usually quite clear who the winner is. Canelo beat trout just as clear as geale beat mundine.

Rios is a bum that pacman found. Pacman has lost his power. Alvarez had nothing against mayweather. Mundine has speed and hits you at will and controls the fight. End of the day no one knows what will happen in any fight. So if mundine gets his shot then I hope he does well. You need to remember not matter how crap the fighter is about the promotion that makes a fight and you all must agree mundine and mayweather can talk it up so would make for an interesting few months before the fight if it ever happens haha
