The Lotus F1 Team have decided to skip the first pre-season test for their 2014 chassis.

Technical Director Nick Chester said that the first ‘winter’ test at Jerez “isn’t ideal for our build and development programme.”

Instead he has decided that the car will debut on track at the second test which takes place in Bahrain on February 19, until February 22.

Gaining more time to develop the all new challenger will come at a cost for the Enstone team, missing out on crucial mileage before the first race of the season in Australia on March 16.

Chester though seems optimistic about his team’s development programme leading into the new season which sees the introduction of several new regulations, including the switch from the V8 engines to smaller V6 turbos.

“From our perspective, the figures look promising and development has been positive,” added Chester.

“That said, we are very much working with very little idea of what the other teams are doing.

The E22 chassis will be driven this year by Romain Grosjean who enters his third full season with Lotus and Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado who lucratively joined the team from Williams.
