Federer has collected an endless supply of tennis accolades across a very impressive career.
It is a CV tennis fans can chuckle over when the PA announcer has to go through the list of championships he’s won.
He made light work of Australia’s James Duckworth in the first round. He wasn’t at all concerned by the young Aussie’s fight and determination.
In the sweltering heat Federer just went about his business game-by-game, at his own pace and never looked like he needed to shift out of first gear.
Even with Duckworth taking games off him in each set, Federer still took out the sets in his usual way, and at times this can be frustrating on his opponents.
The mental side got the better of Duckworth in the third as Federer ran away with it to close it out in straight sets.
Kavcic, the number two Slovakian player, was made to work in the first round against Radek Stepanek.
He trailed by two sets before blitzing a brilliant 6-1 win in the third set to force a fourth. Up 2 games in the set Stepanek pulled out.
Under extreme conditions this would be ideal for Kavcic saving energy allowing for a full recovery and time to focus. Kavcic was impressive in Sydney. He powered fairly easily through the qualifying and round 32.
The best bet for Kavcic is to not get dominated, go out and play to his best abilities and take the games to Federer. Force him into un-characteristic errors.
Federer sometimes can lose his cool when he can’t play the way he likes. He’ll want to stay perfect and get through without expending too much energy and effort. On a day like today it wouldn’t be a bad plan.

GAME SET MATCH FEDERER!!! Well it took a very close 3rd set tie breaker before Federer could claim victory, but he did it and in three sets. Kavcic was impressive in the 3rd set.
