Reigning Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is in fine form and he will look to continue his impressive record at Melbourne Park when he takes on Denis Istomin in the third round. Join us for live scores and commentary from 9.00pm AEDT.
Djokovic’s second round victory over Leonardo Mayer was his 23rd consecutive win at the Australian Open, highlighting just how dominant the world number two is at Melbourne Park.
Standing in the way of a 24th consecutive victory is Istomin, who has a negative 0-3 record against Djokovic.
Istomin though will take plenty of heart from his last match against Djokovic last year at the Rogers Cup after he pushed the former world no.1 to three sets.
In that particular contest, Istomin came storming out of the blocks, winning the first set 6-2 before Djokovic eventually prevailed.
Despite losing the match, Istomin would have taken plenty of confidence from his recent performance against Djokovic and will be keen to test the Serb again on Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic however may have other ideas. The Serb was in ruthless form against Mayer in the second round and always seems to dispatch early round opponents with ease in grand slam tournaments.
For Istomin to stand a chance tonight, he will need to be on song with his serve and forehand given that these are the two shots that will most likely hurt Djokovic tonight.
A fit and firing Istomin may sneak a set against Djokovic but the Serb remains the more complete player by far and should progress to the fourth round with a minimum of fuss.

The first two sets saw Djokovic in complete control but Istomin got better in the third set and pushed Djokovic big time by breaking the Serb when Djokovic was serving for the match. Djokovic though broke back and then managed to serve out the match. Istomin produced several highlights in the third set and won plenty of admirers as a result. Djokovic a little frustrated in the third set as well with sections of the crowd I believe. He is through to the fourth round regardless and Fognini is his next opponent.
