Liverpool vs Everton: EPL live scores, blog

By Layth Yousif / Roar Guru

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will decide whether to play midfielder Joe Allen for the 222nd Merseyside derby at home to Everton. Join us for live scores from 7.00am AEDT.

The ex-Swansea player was absent from The Reds weekend’s FA Cup victory at Bournemouth with hamstring trouble.

He may have trained on Monday but Rodgers is concerned playing him could cause the strain to worsen.

Defender Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) is still up to three weeks away from being fit while Jon Flanagan looks to start after making a substitute return on the South Coast after a month out.

Everton Manager Roberto Martinez has said Seamus Coleman is definitely out while Sylvain Distin is a doubt.

However, if the Frenchman is passed fit, it may mean John Stones deputises for Coleman at right-back – but if Distin misses out, the versatile Stones could be picked to play at centre-half instead of John Heitinga, which could also result in a return for Tony Hibbert at full-back.

Martínez will also make a late call on including loan signing Lacina Traoré.

The Ivory Coast international first trained with his new colleagues on Monday as he has been affected by a hamstring problem.

The attacking Seamus Coleman’s absence at right-back may persuade Brendan Rodgers to opt for Luis Suarez as the nominal left-sided attacker in the Liverpool side, meaning far less emphasis on him being required to track back and help the Reds’ left-back defensively, resulting in – ominously for the Toffees – the Uruguayan being allowed to concentrate solely on his attacking.

Concerns also persist over Phil Jagielka, Antolin Alcarazell, Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar.

Match Stats

Luis Suárez has netted in three of his four Premier League Merseyside derby appearances and

will be confident of improving his 22 goals already this term which included a strike in the memorable 3-3 draw at Goodison Park last November.

With both teams doing well in the Premier League there is more at stake than just local pride, fierce though it is as both teams are looking at a top four finish at the very least which could see The Reds hopes boosted by a win at Anfield – certainly considering Everton’s poor return at the ground in recent seasons.

Everton have won none of their last 13 Premier League visits to Anfield, drawing seven and losing six in that run

Join us at The Roar for what should be a cracking Merseyside derby.

They played out of their skin. I wish the result could have been better but on paper both sides were suffering similar injuries. One side turned up and the other should consider sending half their players to the glue factory after their performances. Everton had three players who can say they had a dig. The rest were pathetic. It could be because they rushed players back, but they didn't look up to it. Full credit to Liverpool, they deserved a win and the Toffees can consider themselves lucky it wasn't a bigger shallacking.

FULL TIME Liverpool 4-0 Everton Gerrard, Sturridge 2, Suarez. This was as comprehensive a rout as you could imagine. Liverpool's impressive intensity and high tempo pressing game saw them on the front foot early on and simply overwhelmed a disappointing Everton side who had such high hopes ahead of the game. Liverpool move into fourth, three points ahead of Spurs with a far superior GD of 26. They are now also four points clear of their Merseyside neighbours Everton. Perhaps more importantly the Reds are now only six points off the leaders Arsenal who could only draw 2-2 at Southampton tonight with Chelsea, and Manchester City to play their games tomorrow night. In this enthralling Premier League season stick with The Roar to keep you up to date - and don't forget to join us for Spurs v Manchester City tomorrow. Thanks for your company as ever, see you tomorrow night - tonight most certainly belonged to the Red half of Liverpool. Cheers

83 mins 4-0 Liverpool Everton have shown a few nice touches over the last few minutes but the game as a contest and a spectacle is over - unless of course you're a Liverpool fan who is savouring the scoreline... Although it must be said that the Everton fans have been defiantly singing their hearts out throughout most of this half.

79 mins 4-0 Liverpool Substitution: Luis Alberto for Philippe Coutinho. Coutinho has been superb tonight showing vision, flair and technique in abundance.

76 mins 4-0 Liverpool Substitution: Aiden McGeady for Ross Barkley. Good to see the youngster show a battling attitude despite the scoreline and the optimism they carried across Stanley Park ahead of kick off which faded dramatically.

74 mins 4-0 Liverpool Sterling lifts a volley well over the bar from a Coutinho cut back. The intensity has died down now understandably after the frenetic first hour or so.

71 mins 4-0 Liverpool Substitution: Victor Moses for Daniel Sturridge. Not hattrick then for Sturridge who will be disappointed with his poor penalty that went flying over the bar on 55 mins.

68 mins 4-0 Liverpool If it stays like this it will be Liverpool's biggest win in the derby at Anfield for almost four decades, although they did win 5-0 at Goodison in 1984. This is not comfortable viewing for Toffees fans.

65 mins 4-0 Liverpool Barkley shows strength to ease through two tackles on the right of the box as he has his shirt pulled by Cissokho, but still manages to fire off a strike from an acute angle which Mignolet puts behind. Good to see youngster Barkley playing with pride and passion despite the score.

59 mins 4-0 Liverpool Sturridge moves down the right before being dumped on his backside by the shell-shocked Alcaraz. Gerrard whips the corner in but nothing comes of it. Walter Smith was the last Everton manager to win at Anfield back in 1999 by the way.

57 mins 4-0 Liverpool Luis Suarez has matched his PL goal total from last season in just 18 appearances (compared to 33 in 2012-13). Incidentally who was the last Everton manager to win at Anfield?

56 mins 4-0 Liverpool Liverpool have scored four goals in a game against Everton for the first time since the FA Cup in February 1991 (4-4). Amazingly - and to Brendan Roger's delight I imagine - Liverpool are still pressing with such intensity. Their work rate has been remarkable, Coutinho in particular. Everton look like they want this game to end now.

55 mins 4-0 Liverpool Sturridge has missed the penalty!!!! Oh dear - that's Jason Puncheon territory. Daniel Sturridge, stepped up for his hat trick...and completely ballooned over the bar. Still 4-0 Liverpool.
