With Manchester City slipping up against Chelsea on Tuesday, Arsenal once again find themselves on the summit of the Premier League table.
The Gunners can establish a five point lead over rivals Manchester City if they can defeat Liverpool away from home.
Such a task is easier said than done however, given the fact that many of Arsenal’s starting XI are struggling with injury.
Key attacking players such as Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey are already out injured, while Jack Wilshere faces an uphill battle to prove his fitness for the clash against Liverpool.
Thankfully for Arsenal fans, key defensive duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny will start against Liverpool.
Mertesacker and Koscielny have been incredibly solid this season for Arsenal at the back, with the Gunners yet to lose a Premier League match when the duo have lined up alongside each other in defence.
Arsenal’s centre-back pairing however face one of the toughest asks in world football – shutting down the extremely dangerous Liverpool strike force of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Suarez really needs no introduction. The Uruguayan forward has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers in world football and tends to rise to the occasion while playing at Anfield.
Sturridge is also having a fine season upfront for Liverpool and will be keen to impress tonight in a bid to sure up a World Cup spot for England this June.
Liverpool will be under pressure to perform at home, given that anything less than a win will severely dent their title aspirations.
A loss to Arsenal will leave the Reds 11 points behind the Gunners – a deficit they are unlikely to make up by season’s end.
With both teams undefeated in their last six matches, tonight’s contest should be a highly entertaining affair.
Arsenal’s injury concerns however should see Liverpool secure the win, particularly if Suarez fires.
Prediction: Liverpool to win 2-0.
