A week in sport I'd rather forget...

Thank Christ that week’s over. Just finished shearing 40-odd thousand sheep, it’s been filthy hot again and the chooks got at my tomatoes… A look at what happened in the world of sport during my week-long hiatus will cheer me up, surely?

Good grief. The Adelaide Crows want to wear the South Australia state jumper as their home kit.

Are you kidding me? It’s bad enough they call themselves the ‘team for all South Australians’ (which they are not), but now they want to prance around in our proud state guernsey?

Bugger me. Bugger off.

Haven’t they upset enough people this off-season? Isn’t penetrating the SANFL with a reserves side enough for this lot?

And as for the other mob at Alberton, who have been very outspoken on this matter, get off your high-horse! The last thing Port folk should be accusing others of is arrogance.

They’ve got short memories, this bunch. A reverent Port Adelaide? Give me a break.

Besides, if you were colour blind watching the Power you could be forgiven for thinking they wore the state jumper every week!

Moving on…

On the cricket scene, Kevin Pieterson has been axed from the Pommy Test squad.

Seriously? One of the few entertaining aspects of English cricket has been forced out because the invalids around him didn’t perform and they needed a scapegoat.

A bit rough I reckon.

On the home front, the Big Bash League wound up, so ending a convenient prime-time sports fix at 7pm in my shed every night on free-to-air television, under the pretence of ‘Cooking the BBQ and feeding the dogs’ should my missus ask questions… Until footy season starts anyway.

Is there any good news this week?

Chris Judd’s going in for more surgery and will miss the start of the season.

What the?! This stinks! I detach myself from the sporting world for one bloody week and it turns to sh*t!

Here we go… My saving grace… My Gunners, sitting atop the English Premier League table, travelled to Liverpool on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the summit. This should lift my spirits.

Arsenal – 1, Liverpool – 5. I feel ill.

To think I was looking forward to welcoming my neglected mistress, sport, into my wide open arms.

Might stick to the wife’s lasagne and ‘My Kitchen Rules’ for the time being. I am burned and fragile.
