Brisbane Roar vs Adelaide United: A-League live scores, blog

By Dominic Beattie / Roar Pro

It is a clash between the A-League’s most attacking sides. Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United have scored a combined total of 74 goals this season and plenty more are expected to come out of this Sunday’s match in Brisbane.

The last time these sides met, Adelaide snatched a last-minute 2-1 win in front of Brisbane’s home crowd, so the Roar will hope to avenge this defeat at the scene of the crime.

Brisbane welcome back star duo Ivan Franjic and Matt Mckay following their Socceroos adventure in London and Coach Mike Mulvey is sure they will be fit to play.

Franjic inspired Brisbane back to winning ways by scoring the first goal of their 3-1 win over Perth last week after two straight losses.

Brisbane striker Besart Berisha is hoping to explode back onto the goal-scoring scene after going for the longest run of games without a goal this season.

Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo reported that Berisha had a sharp week on the training pitch this week so expect the Albanian to have an impact on Sunday’s game.

It will be interesting to see if Roar midfielder Steven Lustica plays in this clash against his former side after all of the controversy surrounding his mid-season move from the Reds outfit.

This match against a red-hot Adelaide side will be a real test to see if the league leaders have steadied the ship.

Adelaide are hitting form at the right end of the season, coming off a spectacularly dominant 5-1 win last week at home against Wellington Phoenix.

Josep Gombau’s men scored goals for fun from all over the pitch in that game but this match will be a measure of their consistency.

Welcoming back Jon McKain (suspension), Marcelo Carrusca (injury) and Ryan Griffiths (injury), expect Adelaide to be as dangerous as ever.

Also, Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic will desperately hope to impress after being left out of the most recent Socceroos squad.

It is sure to be a midfield battle between two teams with a similar style of play.

It is also a potential preview of this season’s Grand Final.

Prediction: Brisbane Roar 2 Adelaide United 2.

I'm calling this game 3-1. That is the score it would have been if we either had decent officials or were allowed a quick check of the video replay before awarding what everyone at the stadium (from both teams and supporters of both sides) and everyone watching at home knew was a goal.

Does anyone know how many passes there were before Berisha's second goal? All i can remember is the ball being knocked around from one side to the other for something like 20-30 passes before he scored.

If Brisbane can beat Sydney FC and Wanderers and Victory lose next round, Brisbane will seal the Premiers plate with four rounds remaining.

A contest that lived up to expectations. 50/50 possession between the sides saw a fantastic midfield battle. Ultimately, Brisbane fashioned the better chances and took them well. Jeronimo's spectacular goal came a bit too late for the Reds. Brisbane go 10 points clear at the top of the ladder and are on the home stretch towards securing the premiers plate. Adelaide face a tough task next week against Western Sydney which they'll hope to win to boost their chances of a finals spot. Thank-you for your company here at The Roar.
