Liverpool FC vs Manchester United: EPL live scores, blog

By Alan / Roar Guru

The biggest derby in English football sees Manchester United host Liverpool in what should be another classic Premier League encounter. Join us for live scores and commentary from 12.30am AEDT.

Liverpool has not defeated United at Old Trafford since the 2008/09 season, but recent form suggests that the Reds possess their best chance to claim a win over their great rivals away from home.

The Reds are currently in second place on the Premier league table, seven points adrift of Chelsea, and need a win tonight to keep the pressure on the Blues.

Standing in Liverpool’s way tonight is a United outfit that has already suffered four losses at home this season.

To put that into perspective, half of United’s defeats in the Premier League thus far have occurred at Old Trafford, their fabled theatre of dreams.

Unfortunately for United, Old Trafford has been anything but a theatre of dreams this season, and Liverpool could play a big part in turning United’s afternoon into another nightmare.

In Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, Liverpool possess the most formidable forward line in the Premier League and they will tear United to shreds if the home side don’t measure up defensively.

Liverpool though have defensive concerns themselves, leaking seven goals in their past three matches.

While United strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie may not be in the best of touch, the duo do possess the class and skill necessary to hurt Liverpool tonight if the Reds are not careful.

With Liverpool in such great attacking form however, expect the Reds to really go out and search for a win that will keep them in the hunt for the Premier League title.

While United at home should rise to the occasion against their great rivals, a fit and firing Liverpool possess the firepower to finally beat the red devils away from home.

Liverpool to win 3-1

City have Manu and Liverpool. It is good for Liverpool to playing against those who they are challenging for top spot. It means destiny is in their hands and they don't have to rely on other results.

The game was well and truly gone by this point. Ferguson wishes he had made defensive changes that night against the blue of Manchester instead of that 8-2 drubbing against City.

I'm certain I read a stat the other day that United hadn't conceded a penalty at Old Trafford since 2011 and had never conceded two of them in their history at Old Trafford. Incredible to concede 3 on the one night and against Liverpool of all teams. This season is very much a write-off for United but I'm confident they'll build a stronger team in the next off season and be competitive once more next season. A team headed by RVP, Rooney and Mata should be much stronger than this.

It will still make for an interesting end of the season if one or more of the teams stumble.

Subbing a midfielder ( though a lazy 1) for a defender while you trailing Moyes is a real tackticle genuis ( on how to lose buying the wrong players the list goes on) a sad day for football as we are not going to Qualify 4 EUFA CL I'm dredding the OLympiacos game

Enjoyed this more than March 09. We controlled that game and never looked in threat. How time has been cruel on United. Not that I care though

They've got Man City and Chelsea in front of them, City with favourable games in hand, I think Liverpool won't get the title this season.

Liverpool far too good today. Gerrard could have had a hat-trick but missed his third penalty. He still finished with two goals from the spot before Suarez finished things off late in the second half. Liverpool just a class above in attack. United just don't possess the class to trouble the best teams anymore. Need to be busy in the transfer window to once again be competitive. Liverpool looking really good after a 15 day break. Another nightmare at Old Trafford for United. Thank you for your company today and join us next time on The Roar United 0 Liverpool 3

91' - United have only really had the one chance today as well with Rooney forcing a fine save from Mignolet in the first half. Other than that, its been all Liverpool. 15 days off didn't hinder Liverpool in the slightest. Henderson with a shot straight to De Gea United 0 Liverpool 3

87' - Liverpool too good today. United just don't possess the roster or class to challenge the very best anymore and Liverpool have shown that today. Gerrard off for Lucas. Liverpool knew this was a fantastic chance to beat United at Old Trafford and they have done so. Mata off for Ferdinand. United 0 Liverpool 3

Sturridge scuffed his shot there but his poor attempt ends up being a great ball to Suarez who found himself one on one with the keeper and he makes no mistake against De Gea! Liverpool home here. United 0 Liverpool 3

Gerrard misses a fantastic opportunity to become the first player in Premier League history to score three penalties in a match. Liverpool miss a great chance to put the game to bed. United though down to ten men with Vidic sent off for a sliding tackle on Sturridge. On replay, it looked like a dive though... thoughts? United 0 Liverpool 2
