Gold Coast Suns vs Brisbane Lions: AFL live scores

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

The Gold Coast Suns may enter the Q-Clash as favourites, but the Brisbane Lions will be desperate for a win after failing to find one in the first two rounds this season. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:40pm (AEDT).

The Suns started their 2014 campaign off with a promising win against Richmond, before travelling to Perth in Round 2 to face the Dockers.

The Suns’ level of improvement was put to the test against Fremantle, and not surprisingly they were shown to still be a ways off from being able to compete with the competition’s best.

However, it cannot be denied that the Suns are improving, and no one would be surprised if they managed to snag one of the last spots up for grabs in this year’s finals.

Their cross-town rivals, the Lions, enter this match without a win from their first two outings, however it has to be noted that they were made to endure two of the toughest possible opponents to open the season.

In Round 1 they faced off against last years Premiers, Hawthorn, before hosting Geelong last week.

Despite failing to push their opponents when it counted, their performances in both matches were not completely devoid of hope.

Everyone knew the Lions were going to struggle in 2014, so perhaps there was no better way to start the year than to face off against two of the best sides from recent years.

Brisbane have had the wood over the Suns in recent times, taking out both Queensland derbies last year; they will draw confidence from the fact that they have overcome the underdog status against the Suns in the past.

In this match however, it is hard to look past the Suns. If they can wrangle the momentum, they could quickly put a sizeable gap on the scoreboard.

We are AFL fans in SE Qld. We are members of both Lions and Suns. It is sad to see the troubles of the Lions, but exhilarating to see the rise of the Suns. With two AFL teams in SE Qld, the odds are good that at least one will have an interesting season. While some may not like that our "loyalty" is to AFL first and team second, this way it is always an interesting AFL season for us.
