De Reus leaves Matildas coaching job

By News / Wire

Hesterine de Reus has been removed as coach of the Matildas, the most senior position in Australian women’s football.

FFA chief executive David Gallop announced the move on Thursday, saying a review had concluded a change in coaches would be in the best interests of the team.

The former Dutch international, who was appointed in early 2013, will be replaced by Sydney FC W-League coach Alen Stajcic in an interim role for the Asian Cup in Vietnam next month.

“After a review by FFA it was determined that a change in coaches was in best interests of the Matildas program,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

Gallop has thanked Hesterine for her efforts over the past 15 months and wished her all the best for the next stage of her coaching career.

Further investigation into the "Dutch Master Plan" uncovers some very interesting facts. From the 2006 experience when master coach (also recognised mercenary) Guus Hiddink worked his "miracle' with our national team someone in high places must have been very, very impressed In 2007 Rob Baan was appointed to map out a master plan but ,coming on in age he "retired " in 2009,no doubt having input to his successor Han Berger.(Rob is now D of C to the Indian FA). The national team was needing a coach so Pym Verbeek was appointed, having been assistant to Hiddink at the 02 WC and to Dick Advocaat ( another mercenary master coach) at the 06 WC.Then came Jan Versliejen who was to engineer the program at the lower levels of our national set up Both left after 4 & 3 years respectively and it would be correct to say the jury is still out on their performances,Pym is now coaching the Morocco Under 23 ream and Jan has had two minor coaching positions in that football powerhouse, South Africa, So we are left with Berger and a host of dubious performances by our youth teams (not too mention the Socceroos) and surprise ,surprise Berger informs the FFA he is leaving after the World Cup. The logical question, why wait???? Then another National coaching position becomes vacant and surprise, surprise, another Dutch lady appears to fill the bill. Her past record is good with under age teams but recently not so good. She lasts a year and now she too has left us with Berger announcing he is taking up a position with Sydney FC !!!!!!!!!!! I'll leave these facts with the reader but ask two questions. (1) How much has this exercise cost in wages alone and what benefits have accrued and (2) Who at FFA has been analysing the plan's success or failure??? jb
