Klopp: I'm not going to Barca

By News / Wire

Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp has dimisssed speculation he may be tempted to move on to Spanish giants Barcelona.

“No one has to be concerned,” Klopp told the Dortmund website.

“We are all still a little in love in this club and how the things are going here.” Klopp, 46, has been in charge at Dortmund his 2008, and his current contract runs until 2018. He won the Bundesliga with Dortmund in 2011, a league and German cup double in 2012, and led them into the Champions League final last year.

This season Dortmund are second in the league behind freshly crowned champions Bayern Munich. The two sides also contest the German cup final on May 17.

A coaching debate started in Barcelona recently after their exit in the Champions League, the lost Spanish cup final against Real Madrid and third place only in the league behind Madrid clubs Atletico and Real.

Dortmund said that 31.1 per cent had recently voted in favour of Klopp in a poll by Spanish sports daily Marca. Gerardo Martino is the current Barca coach.

Dortmund managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that he expects Klopp to fulfil his contract, but that the club must also be prepared for a life after him.

“I rule out that he will leave us before (2018). But it is our duty to make sure that Dortmund are prepared in the best possible way when he no longer holds this function. It is a bigtask, but there is no alternative,” Watzke said.

If you don't win the title for Barca you are likely to get sacked. Or if you loose 3 games in a row. And then you have to look for a job again. Klopp has more freedom and less pressure in Dortmund.

It's difficult for me to judge not being a professional footballer. But why would anyone in their right mind want to move away from BVB? I know they don't pay as highly as other big Euro clubs but the culture at that club is almost unmatched elsewhere in the big leagues. To play in front of 80k every week in that incredible stadium, running towards that magnificent Yellow Wall.
