Melbourne Demons vs Sydney Swans: AFL live scores, blog

By Zee / Roar Guru

Saturday night at the MCG brings us a clash between the Melbourne Demons and the Sydney Swans – two teams struggling to live up to expectations in 2014. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:40pm (AEST).

Paul Roos will, for the time ever, coach against his former club. This is sure to be a poignant moment for the longest serving coach at Sydney to take in.

The Swans travel down to Melbourne following a hard fought gritty victory over the Dockers, but the clubs slow and sluggish start to the season has been made worse with news coming to light that their 10 million dollar man was involved in a four car bingle on Wednesday night.

It’s a shame because Franklin was back to his stellar best last week with four goals, and his performance appeared to lift the Swans’ midfield, with Jarrad McVeigh, Dan Hannebery, and Josh Kennedy leading the Bloods to victory.

The Swans sit 13th on the ladder after six weeks, coming into this match on the back of 2 wins, and 3 losses.

On the other side of things Melbourne sit 17th on the table, with just one win this season. Their co-captain, Nathan Jones, continues to be the teams bright spark with Jack Viney closely following after he put up a very gutsy performance against the Suns last week.

Team wise, Kurt Tippet won’t be available for the Bloods after he sustained a cracked rib in his return to football via the NEAFL.

The last five meetings:
Round 15, 2013: Sydney 16.20 (116) d Melbourne 13.7 (85) at the MCG
Round 8, 2012: Sydney 21.12 (138) d Melbourne 5.7 (37) at the SCG
Round 1, 2011: Melbourne 11.18 (84) drew Sydney 11.18 (84) at the MCG
Round 17, 2010: Melbourne 22.10 (142) d Sydney 10.9 (69) at the MCG
Round 17, 2009: Sydney 10.8 (68) d Melbourne 6.14 (50) at Manuka Oval

Both sides have their flaws, this season the Swans have been struggling in the ruck following the departure of Shane Mumford, while the Demons dark points seem to be their centre clearances.

I think on the back of an impressive victory over Fremantle, the Swans will come home easily by at least 30-points.
