The Carlton Blues host the West Coast Eagles this afternoon a vital Round 6 clash at Etihad Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:40pm AEST.

The Blues came up surprise winners last time these teams met, but both teams are in different positions than that Round 4 clash last year.

Carlton’s confidence will be high after breaking through for their first win of the season last weekend, when they triumphed in gritty fashion against the Western Bulldogs.

That win came at a cost, as the Blues lost Chris Judd, Ed Curnow and Tom Bell to injury. Michael Jamison, Mitch Robinson, Brock McLean and Jeff Garlett return for the Blues to give them some experience.

This match gives Carlton a great opportunity to show that they are not in the bottom four in the comp. A solid performance is crucial for the Blues and their fans, not to mention coach Mick Malthouse.

West Coast have lost their past two games, and travel to Melbourne desperate for victory to stay in touch with the top teams. Key Eagles forwards Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling have the height and strength to worry a makeshift Blues defence, and are crucial to their team’s chances.

The ruck battle between Carlton’s Robert Warnock and Eagles pair Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui will also be crucial. If West Coast mids Chris Masten and Sharrod Wellingham get first use, it could be a huge victory for the Eagles.

The key player for the Blues is their skipper Marc Murphy. After an impressive game last weekend, the captain will be looking to put in a similar performance this week.

For the Eagles, look out for key forward Kennedy. If Kennedy can kick a bag, the Eagles will get up against the Blues.

Eagles by 50.
