Mitchell Pearce arrested on night out - Origin hopes in jeopardy

By The Roar / Editor

Roosters and New South Wales halfback Mitchell Pearce has been arrested for an early morning incident outside a Kings Cross nightclub.

And in further bad news for the club and player, Pearce has reportedly been spotted ‘lunging at a woman inside the club’ before his arrest.

More coverage:
Could Pearce’s arrest be a blessing in disguise
How could Pearce do what he did?

“On the CCTV footage Pearce gets up and reaches out towards the woman who jumps back and then he sits back down laughing,” a police source told the Daily Telegraph.

Police spoke to Pearce inside the club after receiving a complaint and he was escorted outside by security.

He was arrested outside after allegedly becoming argumentative and refusing to leave the area.

The Roosters said they were aware of the incident and that the NRL’s Integrity Unit had been notified.

“The Sydney Roosters have been made aware that Mitchell Pearce was issued with an infringement notice for failure to quit a licensed premises overnight,” the statement read.

“The infringement notice was issued and the fine paid.

“The Roosters have advised the NRL’s Integrity Unit.

“From here, the club will address the matter internally and will be making no further comment.”

Nine news reported that a “distressed” young woman approached police and pointed out Pearce, who was then escorted from the premises by security staff.

The incident places Pearce’s chances to be selected in the New South Wales State of Origin side in serious jeopardy, but Blues coach Laurie Daley told News Corp no decision would be made until the facts were reviewed.

“That is something we will discuss internally.

“Before we make any comment or decision, we have to find out what happened and the reasoning for it.

“From there we will form an opinion.”

too right what is he 24 or 25 now - man when i was that age i was chasing the skirt too whats the big deal channel 9 made it look like he committed some heinous crime as johnny gibbs said the video helped him as he did nothing- i would say the cops overreacted as rightfully he stood his ground to ask why was i ejected from the club and what am i ordered out of here- it aint a police state we have rights the copper overreacted- the coppers be better off tackling real crime for once they were certainly absent when innocent folk were coward punched causing their deaths where were the coppers then??? The press are just ambulance chasers the standard of journalism is rock bottom - channel 9 and the murdock papers have something to answer too in all of this- the channel 9 reporter is still chasing this story as well as murdock ones even resorting to accessing the woman in question face book and instagram sites for her pictures. still they are printing more about this in todays paper- man get a life and get onto real stories

Pearce is the premership winning halfback. Who do you think matches him for NSW? And based on what performances / results / statistics? Or are you more interested in just hating for the sake of it?

Adam Reynolds had 2 chances to impress in big games at the end of last year. Unfortunately, he failed in them - but there's hope for his future. Origin is bigger and tougher than those games, with little time to prepare and gel the team. He needs big pressure wins before he can be considered. Plus, while his kicking game is fabulous, his passing game is below nearly all halves - he makes about 20% of the linebreak assists compared to Pearce, Cronk and Thurston. In City v Country, he and J Reynolds performed about equal with T Roberts and Mullen - i.e. none of the 4 showed themselves ahead of the pack in that one game. Hodkinson is a good organiser with a rounded game. Who has achieved nothing in the game yet. Needs to experience tough, high-pressure games - and win - before Origin debut. And he should get no "benefit of the doubt" through missing the City-Country game. Has to prove himself before selection. *If* Pearse was missing, it would be a very tricky decision. The best I can come up with is to play Mullen out of position at 7, with experience of Maloney at 6 and with J Reynolds on the bench. And starting 2 new halves shouldn't be considered. Mullen's more organiser and kicker than runner. And he's experienced the pressure and shock of one game of Origin, many years ago, and has become more rounded, experienced and stronger since then. But that's still a big gamble and challenge.

@ Dr yes, my thought exactly, we will sacrifice another series or 2 blooding NSW second best halfback or worst,, a 3rd stringer when in reality 1 or 2 point losses is prob the closest NSW will get against this Q side.

Firstly there was no ARREST as he was escorted and fined, second there no CHARGES to drop as he wasnt charged and what excactly has he done apart from try to get the attention of a girl obviously dressed for some and thought as he didnt do anything wrong he was being ejected wrongfully and being under the influence didnt see the red flag this would bring but my goodness how many have been WRONGFULLY ejected from bars before!?? This blow up to sell a paper has caught out a few!!!

@Dr Yes over-awed you say. Just like Mitchell Pearce has been in every one of his origin games. Last tackle options and his kicking game has been disgraceful in origin. How good did Mitchell Pearce play in origin said no one ever

If he misses out on origin my Xmas would of come early, his old mans connections have got him selected for too long he does not perform well in orgin and has one of the worst kicking games. Adam Reynolds or Trent hodkinson should wear the number 7 with josh Reynolds at 6 all three have the goods to deliver.

@Chappy. According to history, you couldn't be more wrong. The record is gruesome for Origin debutant halves who have not previously won GFs, prelim semis, internationals - to a man they lose the series, often by very big margins and often they are over-awed, well out-played and out-muscled. Often to an extent they are punted and not seen again. The story gets even worse for halves who aren't quite large and tough, with good defence and strong organizing skills. In fact, very often halves who *do* have a winning semi/GF record, debut to series losses and take a couple of years to develop into Origin players before they win the series - and we're talking tough all-time greats here, like Johns, Lockyer, Daley, Mortimer and many others. Be very afraid if Pearce is replaced.

Pearce's origins hopes in jepordy, but NSW hopes of winning just increased 10 fold. Let's hope this unfortunate female victim report and press charges against Pearce. As his behaviour that night is unacceptable from anyone, especially SOO pretenders

thanks goodness, this is a blessing for NSW. hope the selectors choose trend hodkinson to partner josh reynolds in the halves. club combinations are the key to any rep team, QLDs 8 year dominance is a testament to that. plus maloney is nursing an injury and will be found out in origin by thaiday and co. having tony williams outside will the Dogs halves will helpen too.
