[VIDEO] Parramatta Eels vs St George Illawarra Dragons: preview

By The Roar / Editor

Saturday afternoon sees a clash between the Parramatta Eels and the St George Illawarra Dragons at Pirtek Stadium.

The last meeting between the two sides was in Round 25 of the 2013 season. That match saw the Eels surprise the Dragons, coming away with a 26 to 22 victory, in one of their only five victories of the season.

The Eels recorded a strong victory on Monday against the Sharks but they’ll need to address their defensive woes, which have seen the side leak the 2nd most points this season.

Things are looking bleak down in Kogarah, as the Dragons side were demolished by 32 points last weekend.

Although the Dragons’ new, and highly publicised signing, Benji Marshall wasn’t named for Saturday’s match, he will likely debut after the Tigers and Dragons reached a compensation agreement on Friday afternoon.

His inclusion will be important for a side that desperately needs a spark to turnaround their woeful form, which has seen them lose five of their last six matches.

The battle of the fullbacks will be highlight of the afternoon as both Jarryd Hayne and Josh Dugan will be looking for an eye catching performance, with State of Origin less than two weeks away.

A standout game from either player could see them secure the New South Wales no. 1 jersey.

Parramatta's gritty first half and then second half demolition of StGeorge Illawarra has confirmed their premiership credentials.

Everything now will depend on the Dragon forwards. If they fire the Dragons can win this and be back in the winning circle!

I would have said that the rising Parramatta side would have won this one quite easily. But Benji's appearance, and for sure he'll be wanting to make a point, has caused me to reassess this match. It should be an entertaining game but now it could go either way as I see it.

I think Saints will be far better than last week and will come out firing , the EELS will have to address their defence if they are going to come away with this one . Benji no doubt will be trying his heart out to prove his worth, Im going for the EELS in a tight one .
