Djokovic enters the second grand slam of the year in super form after claiming victory in Madrid over the clay court champion Rafael Nadal.

After losing to the master last year in a nail biting semi final, Djokovic will be out for redemption as he again tries to seek his first Roland Garros crown.

He may have a chance as well due to the fact that Nadal may not be in his best form leading up to Roland Garros and Novak should be booming with confidence after his win against Nadal two weeks ago.

As a competitor none are better than Novak. His consistency since 2007 has been remarkable and since his first Grand Slam title in 2008 against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in Australia, Djokovic has kept us this consistent form throughout all majors and lower ranked tournaments.

Since turning pro in 2003, Djokovic has won 567 matches on the tour including winning 24 matches so far in 2014 and only losing three.

With over 61 million dollars in prize money, Djokovic will be looking to add to this at Roland Garros. Here in Paris his best result was making the final in 2012, however he has reached the semi-finals four times and the quarter finals twice since 2007.

However in comparison to his results at the other majors this by far has been his worst, as he has won the title in London, New York and Melbourne yet not here in Paris.

Djokovic has a favourable draw here in 2014 and most people would predict him to make the final and possibly end the incredible run by Rafael Nadal that started way back in 2005. Djokovic opens up tonight in a massive tournament for not just him but the whole tennis world.

Game-Set-Match Djokovic. Well this has been an outstanding match from Novak Djokovic. Sousa was brave in defeat but could not compete with the class and power of Novak. This is a stellar first round win where he played well off both sides of the court and broke the Sousa serve multiple times during the duration of the match. He may of became wayward in the third set losing his serve twice, yet Djokovic was far to good on Philippe Chatrier and he is a contender for sure in this years French Open. Final Score: Novak Djokovic defeats Joao Sousa 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

Game-Sousa. Congratulations to Joao who has pushed Djokovic on some of his service games today without finishing him off. It took a while but he did it! Sousa breaks back but is still down 4-2.

Game-Djokovic, This is now total domination. He has the double break and is playing so well especially off the backhand side. His returning continues to become better as the match wears on. Novak leads 4-1 with the double break in the third and now likely final set.

15-30 on the Sousa service game. If Djokovic gets this he could smell victory.

Game-Sousa. Important hold to start the third set for Sousa, the scoreline looks one sided but so far Sousa has shown signs that on his day he could match it with the best.

Game-Set Djokovic. So Novak gets himself out of slight trouble and takes the second set to have a two set to love lead in this match. Seems like only a matter of time now before Novak progresses yet lets hope Sousa continues to fight for the remainder of the match.

Rain Delay. Seems like it shouldnt be a big delay there is another hold up before Djokovic can attempt to serve out the second set.

Game-Djokovic. This is just simply brilliant now from Novak Djokovic. He is generating substantial power from both wings and his placement is just sensational. If he is not at the baseline, he is looking great from the net having won seven of eight net approaches. Sousa is trying incredibly hard and playing reasonably well but Novak is at another level. It is 5-2 Djokovic in the second set and it would take a miracle for Sousa to get back from here. This is simply magnificent to watch.

Game- Djokovic. This is turning out to be a very professional performance from the second seed on Philippe Chatrier. His movement, footwork, placement and timing are all present and he has full control of the match. 4-2 Djokovic.

Game-Djokovic. Well Joao will be really disappointed with that. After having 30-0 he lost four points easily to gift Djokovic a break of serve in this crucial part of the match. Novak is in full control now up a set and a break. It is 3-2 to Djokovic who has the break and the opening set.

After Sousa looked solid in the opening two points of this game, Djokovic has it back to 30-30 and a crunch moment is coming for Sousa here.

Game - Djokovic. Slight opportunity again for Sousa here at 30-30 after two solid points but oh wait.. Djokovic comes up with another timely ace and a powerful forehand winner to hold serve yet again. 2-2 second set.
