Hard-nosed New South Wales captain Paul Gallen, as we have all been made abundantly aware, last week labeled Queenslanders ‘two heads’.

A tongue in cheek jibe immediately followed by a laugh and a smile delivered by a man merely showing his detest for a state through a small sound bite, in an attempt to create hype around a great spectacle of Australian sport.

Then the circus. ‘Two head’ has become a recurring motif of Origin coverage, with journalists constantly hanging onto it for dramatic value, asking Gallen himself if he was afraid of the backlash he would receive. Reiterating this, Origin immortal Wally Lewis yesterday took the hysteria to a new and aggressive level by ‘slamming’ Paul Gallen.

“I don’t think NSW ever did get Origin. If this (run of losses) continues for NSW, they might eventually get it” Lewis told The Daily Telegraph. He further indicated that Gallen’s comments were an indication of a “long held disrespect for Queensland” and that the Maroons have “class” and wouldn’t resort to public humiliation.

With all due respect to Wally Lewis, who is held in high regard by all Rugby League enthusiasts myself included, boohoo. Cry us a river Wally. The claim that NSW do not get Origin is preposterous; in fact, we have reached a point in time when NSW in fact get Origin more than Queensland.

We don’t have a parade of ridiculousness to announce our team, or over the top productions at training sessions and that’s because we don’t deserve them. We have been embarrassed and humiliated and we are absolutely sick of it. We have all developed a deep passion through our pain that will win this series.

We are all sick of losing, sick of the culture of failure. We detest the Maroons with a deep burning passion that makes us all want to don a sky blue jersey and chop Nate Myles in half.

We, as a state, have a burning desire to destroy Queensland. The players are bred and breathe with the same passion and should let it spill forth to the media, let those Maroons know that we won’t be Origin whipping boys any more.

Wally Lewis’ tantrum in response to the Gallen comment shows we can get under their skin, so let them have it. Lets tell them we can’t stand them. We are a proud state that is determined to put a stop to our own humiliation, and also make Queensland feel our pain.
