Cheap Seats Origin special: Hayne soars to new heights as NSW take Game 1

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

The Roar’s expert sports writers Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell return from holidays just in time for a Game 1 Cheap Seats Origin special.

In this State of Origin Game 1 review, Ryan is cock-a-hoop like only a long-suffering Blues fan can be, while Brett sits through his first full game of rugby league in 2014.

Origin special talking points:
• Jarryd Hayne’s man of the match display, arguably the best NSW game in eight years;
• Cooper Cronk’s injury, and what it might mean for Queensland for the future;
• The ugly, but perhaps not so bad flip tackle on Brent Tate;
• Josh Papalii cleans up Paul Gallen;
• The manic last twenty minutes;
• NSW’s shot at history in Game 2;
• Trent Hodkinson on debut, and the NSW halves in general;
• The good and bad for both sides in Game 1, and;
• Any foreseeable changes for Game 2 at this early stage.

Find us on Twitter at @CheapSeatsPod and please use the tag #AskTheCheapSeats for any questions you want the boys to answer on the next podcast, as we return to normal transmission – covering all sports – next week.

Stay cheap.

Well done Lads, nicely covered off. What a game for the ages. This was Brutality at it's best.

I know! What the hell was that? You can hear us both laughing about it at the end. Mental note: recording a podcast late at night, after an emotional game (and a few beers), is not always the best idea!

Maybe that's his defence "but sir i was trying to keep him in the air!"

There was nothing in that tackle! In a lot of ways, dangling upside down in mid-air is the safest possible place you can be. Much safer than being on the ground.

I'd imagine that will form a big part of the defence, Mushi...

I do find it odd that the guy actually driving him into the turf (was it Beau Scott) isn’t found to be culpable at all?

Murphy's Law - Josh Reynolds was charged with a Grade 2 lifting tackle shortly after we finished recording this last night! Has already expressed an intent to fight the charge - with Canterbury having a bye, he'd miss SOO2 with a guilty plea accepting a two game ban...
