St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks: NRL live scores, blog

Will we see the St George Illawarra Dragons play their best football and beat the Cronulla Sharks in Saturday night football? Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEST.

The Dragons are coming off a loss to the Souths Sydney Rabbitohs, while the Sharks have had the bye, and both teams are looking for a change in fortunes.

The Dragons have won seven out of the last ten games against Cronulla and will aim to continue that trend.

The last time these two sides played was back in Round 3, where the Dragons won 16-12.

The Dragons are aiming for their first win under new coach Paul McGregor but for that to happen they need star halves Benji Marshall and Gareth Widdop to fire.

Despite the loss, the Dragons have kept the same side that played the Rabbitohs on Monday night and Marshall might finally secure his first win for the Red V against a depleted Sharks team who are missing 11 first graders.

Cronulla will be without Todd Carney and Paul Gallen and could struggle to score points.

They have made mass changes to their side, with Nathan Gardner returning to first grade at fullback, Michael Gordon moving to the centres, making room for Jacob Gagan and Fa’amanu Brown to make their debuts on the wing and at five-eighth, respectively.

Can the Sharks overcome the odds and beat a Dragons side who are determined to get back into the winners circle?

Join The Roar from 7.30pm (AEST) for live score updates and debate in our live blog.

The refs and lady luck have flattered the sharks this last 2 seasons with unprecedented penalty counts and calls going their wy. This year, that all seems to have deserted them and what we are seeing now is Cronulla's true playing ability. The Dragons aren't that hot but when playing a park footy team, even they can put 20 past them.

Greg Alexander has no idea. Dugan is in the centres because Mary wants Quinlan at fullback. Quinlan is the best fullback at the Dragons.

That is the best Cronulla have played all season. They really stepped up. Dragons played poorly just flattered by weak opposition.

Benji Marshall named man of the match, very well deserved. 4 try assists and 4 linebreak assists and getting his first win for the red V. Josh Dugan and Trent Merrin were also outstanding for the Dragons tonight. The Dragons now have to face the table leading Panthers next week while the depleted Sharks will be hoping for some of their players to be back. The Sharks have another bye next week before facing Manly in round 15. It doesn't get any easier. FULL TIME Dragons 30 Sharks 0

FULL TIME Well, that's it! Dragons have won the game 30-0. 188 minutes without a point scored for the Sharks. Where to from here? They need their players back as soon as possible.

The referee's have called a try. It looked fine, a great play by Widdop again, puts in a little grubber and regathers, getting the ball out wide to Beale who may have a second.. looking at the sideline.. It is good!
