The big questions for Origin 3

By Daniel Vella / Roar Rookie

In the wake of NSW victory, after the celebrations have subsided NSW will need to refocus for Game 3, a game that raises many questions for both teams.

Could it be Paul Gallen’s swan song? The inspirational prop has battled hard through Origin and over the last two years he has missed many games for the Sharks during and after Origin.

With the Sharks entering their darkest days and having finally scaled the Origin mountain, will Gal shift his focus to his club in his twilight years?

Will the Maroons invest in the future and blood new talent? With Billy Slater and Greg Inglis battling injury and Brent Tate out, there is the opportunity to introduce new players.

Will Queensland take this chance, or will the golden generation turn out in force to reassert themselves as Origin heavyweights?

Will Daly Cherry-Evans prove himself as a future first-choice Queensland halfback? After two losing performances at 7, those who were screaming for him to replace Cooper Cronk are suddenly silent.

Game 3 will be a strong indicator of who wins the Queensland 7 shirt in 2015.

Finally, will Game 3 see the return of the Origin biff, with the series no longer on the line? One thing that is certain is that there is no such thing as a dead rubber in State of Origin.

I've been heaps proud of Cherry-Evans in the past 2 games. He hasn't been fully fit, heavily targeted and yet battled hard. I have no doubt he will be the rock of QLD in future years to come.

Let's just keep in perspective that DCE still hasn't had a full training camp at 7. Having said that though, I think if he isn't 100% fit Hunt should get a run, if Inglis is struggling give chambers a run, if slater has a bung shoulder let Boyd/inglis/someone else go to fullback. Don't drain the NRLs superstars for a dead rubber if the players aren't 100%. Although having said THAT. I'm certain QLD will only make the changes neccessary. Chambers in for Tate, McGuire/Hannant in for Scott, hunt will come in for DCE if he beaks his leg, and the day hodges retires will be the day his jersey is given up.

I'm a huge fan of DCE but I'd love to see Hunt get a run for number 7. He's given the Broncos that extra dimension in attack and he's got some of the best stats as 7 in the NRL at moment.

Well before Origin 2014,I saw what I thought was a clear sign that NSW would be successful this year. That is, the form of Melbourne Storm. After moving to Melbourne in the late 1980's, I followed the NRL from a distance... the coverage on television was virtually non existent. So with the advent of the Storm, I suddenly had a home team to follow, and have done ever since. This year though, their form has been uncharacteristic and I thought that was a harbinger of what was to come in Origin. While the legendary status of the Storm based Maroon players is untouchable, the fact is, even legends fade eventually, and the current Origin series for mine is the first sign of the armour cracking... at last. So yea, time for some new young blood but I would not be discarding the proven champions just yet.

Queensland will field the same team in game 3 with chambers on the wing for tate and perhaps parker to return to fill the hole left by matt scott.
