    MATCH RESULT:

A huge sense of relief across the faces of Brazilian players – what a huge scare against Chile. They remained tough when it countered though and Cesar in particular the hero for Brazil with two good saves in the shoot-out.

Bravo saved one penalty to deny Hulk and Willian missed as well. Chile though didn’t really have their shooting boots on for the shoot-out. Brazil now await the winner of Colombia and Uruguay in the next clash at 6.00am. Thank you for your company today!

    FINAL SCORE:
    Brazil 1
    Chile 1

    Brazil win 3-2 on penalties.

    MATCH PREVIEW:

Two South American giants do battle in the round of sixteen as hosts Brazil take on Chile. Join us for live scores and commentary from 2.00am AEST.

Despite their less-than-impressive start to the tournament, Brazil will start strong favourites today against the Chileans.

Key figure Neymar has already scored four goals at the World Cup, with doubles against Croatia and Cameroon.

Chile meanwhile struggled to take the game to Holland in their last group game. Chile love to play on the break but were forced to chase the game against the Netherlands in search of a win.

Although Chile dominated possession against the Dutch, Holland were far more dangerous on the counter attack and managed to secure a 2-nil win that saw them avoid a clash against Brazil.

Chile however will be given the chance to play on the break today, and will be more dangerous as a result. Brazil will be expected to take the game to Chile given they are on home soil – a defensive mindset won’t be well received by the Brazilian faithful.

Brazil however know the danger that Chile present on the break and may very well opt to sit back in a bid to avoid unnecessary risks.

With the pressure firmly on Brazil, Chile can certainly bide their time and wait for an opportunity to pounce. If they score first, Brazil will have to chase the game and this is when Alexis Sanchez, Eduardo Vargas and Arturo Vidal can cause trouble.

If Brazil get on the board first however, the home side could run away with this contest, particularly if Neymar and Hulk are given space to attack.

While Chile certainly command respect, it would be a very brave person to tip against Brazil in the round of sixteen on home soil. Whatever happens, a cracking contest awaits.

    Brazil to win 2-1.

Don’t know why they insist playing with Jo and Fred. They should just have Neymar at CF, wilian/bernard to share the left flank.

Not sure why they decided to get Pinella to take the first penalty right after he missed a shot and was obviously not calmed down.
