Cronulla’s hope was taken away almost as soon as it appeared.

Hope the Sharks were finally turning their season around. Hope that this ASADA crisis was finally in the rear-view mirror.

Almost as soon as that hope appeared from the shadows, it was crushed by a few a beers and the click of a button.

Todd Carney’s man-of-the-match effort gave the Sharks their first win in two months, only to be followed a day later with a potentially career-ending photograph, leaving his club less and nowhere to go.

Now we have today. The mid-season transfer deadline has come and passed, and Cronulla is left in a mini-crisis. Who is handed the troublesome number 6 jersey? There are only three real options.

They could play someone like Wade Graham or Luke Lewis out of their natural second row spots. Seeing as Lewis and Graham are the Sharks best forwards, besides Paul Gallen, so let’s cross that one off the list.

What if they chucked Daniel Holdsworth back into five-eighth? He played there previously this year in six games and lost all six, so he may not be a viable option.

Cronulla’s best option is to blood a young five-eight and set themselves up for the future. Recently re-signed Cronulla junior Fa’amanu Brown played off the bench in Cronulla’s 24-22 win over Brisbane, and looks the best option. After gaining some experience in this year’s Auckland Nines competition, Brown has played in three NRL games.

With the ability to play in either the halves, the centres or at hooker, Brown could be a long-term option for the Sharks following Carney’s sacking. Can Cronulla keep winning with a half?

More importantly, what’s next for Todd Carney? Will there be another club added to Carney’s career, or will there be another incident on his ever-growing rap sheet?
